When is her coat going to come through?

Hi, we have a three month old Goldendoodle (2nd gen). At the moment her coat is still pretty flat and moulting!! Is this usual, all the pics I have seen are of fluffy little puppies! Our girl is good as gold and a sweetheart - but I am not sure she is ever going to look  like a doodle! Is this usual? Thanks.

Gill:  How is Ruby doing with her coat?   Need to see some current pictures.  It's been two months now.

Hi there, Ruby is dong really well. Coat still not as expected, but definitely a change on her back, it is now coarser and very wavy! The 'puppy' fluff seems to have gone everywhere but her ears, and someone in the park yesterday actaully said 'what a cute doodle puppy!'. So it seems that my patience is being rewarded - although I still think she may have a sparser coat than many GD's. WE also changed her food to a very high protein (high cost!) brand and have been adding tuna! She is most definitely filling out. I think she may end up looking like a pale cream version of your GD. I will update pictures soon to show her development - hopefully this will reassure anyone else with worries such as mine. As before however, she continues to be such a good and fun loving puppy - lts of holes in the garden, but we never liked gardening much anyway!

Thanks for your message!

Gill:  Was just thinking of you and Ruby.  How is her coat doing?

It will come soon enough and then all the grooming starts. Enjoy the carefree nature of her coat while you can.

Thanks, I guess I am just impatient. Hopefully her coat will gradually come, she is already developing a darker coarser wavy line along her spine.........sign of more to come hopefully! I think that Pemon is lovely, I will be delighted if Ruby develops a coat like his! I have just called the breeder to find out how the other puppies coats are developing. As they are F2's she is not sure how they might develop their coats!

Don't worry - it will happen.  Pemon didn't get his first hair cut until he was 6 months old.  I too see other peoples Doodles at 8 weeks old with lots of fur.  As you can see in my pictures Pemon was not like that.  Knit her a ballerina outfit with a full to-to (sp? Skirt)  That'll work!

Yes she is 2nd generation. Both parents are F1 Goldendoodles, and the breeder owned both, as well as the original poodle and Golden Retreiver. Both parents had the full look of a goldendoodle, and very full coats. We spent a long time researching breeeds and our hearts were won over the the GDoods. I have a seven year old daughter who is wondering when the teddy bear look will arrive, whilst my husband and I feel a little dissapointed at the monet! That said, she has the sweetes nature and is a very very good puppy. Maybe I will knit her a jumper! Thanks for your comments. I am in need of reassurance - it is like being a new mum all over again!

O.K.  Now I see what you mean.  Ruby looks more Golden Retriver then anything - Seems like Retriver dominated.  But they do change over night.    She's still adorable.  I think it is just a matter of time and she will fill out.  Is she a F1?  that would be 50% Retriver & 50% Poodle.  Did you get her from a Breeder?   Did you happen to see the Mom & Dad?  It's really weird.  You should look at the pictures of Andrea's two Doodles Grace & Jorja - they bother had the same mother.  Different fathers.

Gill:  If you go and look at the photos I just added three of my Pemon.  At 2 1/2, 3 1/2 & 4 1/2 months. Your Doodles coat is much fuller then Pemon's was at that age.  Difference can be that Pemon is an F1 - 1st generation.  Be patient because when they start to really grow you're going to have quite the groomer bills.  Just had him groomed again today for $85.00.  We are definitely going to shop Groomers - It looks like we can cut this in half at Petsmart.  Your Doodle is adorable.
