Hi Everybody, this is Luke. Just thought I had better check in and see how your week is going.
Things keep picking up around here and this week was really busy! I was walking on the beach when a big wave, at least 8 inches high, came out of nowhere and attacked me. I wanted to look cool and since I couldn’t swim, I pretended I was surfing and just rode the wave to shore, almost a foot away.
Then I met a big, big dog that was a golden retriever, just like my other mom. We played for a long time. Sometimes he even let me pretend that I was bigger than him and I got to run around him. There was a lady watching us that had two little bitty dogs and she looked really scared.
Yesterday, I went to my first puppy obedience class. This nice lady thought she taught me my name, how to sit, how to stay, how to come and some other stuff. I didn’t want to hurt her feelings so I pretended like I didn’t already know that stuff.
It’s not too bad living here. The only thing I don’t like is when I have to go to work with my mom on Friday and Saturday. It’s not too bad for a while when lots of people come in and tell me how cute I am, but then it gets really boring. I get even with my mom for taking me by barking a lot. That’s when she puts me in the crate in the car and I can watch people and take naps. Wish one of you could help her think of something that would keep me from getting so bored.
Well, that’s about it. It’s time for dinner and a walk. Let me hear from all you guys and tell me what you have been doing.
Love, Luke

Laurie, how old are Nug & Puk? How old were they when they were "okay" at work and didn't bark for attention, etc?
Dianne, I am so impressed! I used to teach school and never ever came up with an idea that good! Wouldn't the dog be considered a teaching tool and be allowed all the time? That's so great... And, Alessandra, since Luke read about the whale puppy, all he wants to do is go to the beach to try to find one! Good thinking, Pedro!! All I know is that I want to go to work for Jon Stewart! Bruce, that's brilliant and I didn't know that. Love his show and now I know why he's so awesome. The person I work for is definitely NOT a dog person. When I suggested I bring Luke, I was told I would be fired if I even brought him in the building. I assured him I would quit, if I couldn't. It's really a trial and I truly think the only thing that will help is a few more months. Even at home, at some point early evening, he reminds me of any good two-year-old that has had a good day, but has hit the end and is having a meltdown. We'll see how many bribes I can come up with tomorrow.
Saw on my facebook page, that every day is bring your dog to work day at the Daily Show with Jon Stewart in New York. So cool !!
Sounds like a super day at the beach! Barbara - it's so wonderful that Luke gets to go with you to work! I only got to "bring my dog to work" one day when I was teaching commands in Spanish and since my little dog at the time understood all her commands in Spanish, I used her to teach my human kids! Gosh, they loved it - and so did she! (I had a great principal at the time who let me do stuff like that!) As for the boredom, you might try putting some of his mealtime kibble in one of those puzzle toys you can get - might be good for 15 minutes anyway!
Meant to write "He" - don't know where that came from.
I do leave the windows open, but it's been so cool here that by 7, I have to make sure it's not too cold in the car. She is totally content and love when people stop to "visit" (the car is locked and where I can see it at all times!!) that I almost think by then, he kind of likes it there. I have also tried attaching a leash to my clothes, so he goes where I go and he doesn't have to just lay there and be bored. We'll see how this weekend goes.
Hey Cousin Luke! Sounds like you're doing pawsome! Oh those waves, they can be so sneaky sometimes, but they're fun, aren't they? Did you by chance meet a whale puppy? I don't know if I had told you but I'd really love to meet a whale puppy because I want to be friends with her ... It's so nice of you to pretend that the lady at the obedience class taught you things that you -of course!- already know... I did the same thing when I was a littler puppy and it was fun because I also got to meet some new friends and teach Mommy and Daddy some fun tricks.
As for how to not get bored when you go to work with your Mommy, I think you need to be a little bit bigger, but a chewing toy might be fun to try and maybe a walk right before it gets quiet around her work place so you're tired and ready for a nap. That kind of works for me... sometimes.
Give your Mommy lots of loving and cuddles and she won't get mad at you for barking... and she will probably give you cuddles in return and maybe some treats too!
Loving paws from your Cousin Pedro
Luke you are just a puppy and doing puppy things. But sometimes there's a time and a place to bark and that's not at Mommy's place of business. Barbara, do you leave the windows open in the car so it doesn't get too hot in there? Sorry, can't help being so over protective. I'm just a worry wart.
