Help!!! I just brought my puppy home yesterday she has a terrible odor. It’s so bad that it gags me when I pick her up. I took her to the vet and she’s healthy but he noticed her smell and told me to bathe her. I did and that didn’t work. Anyone else had this issue with their goldendoodle??

Hi Kathy, there is definitely a reason for your baby to have a smell. Could be anything from overgrowth of yeast on skin or ears, could be the food she has been eating, her anal glands, UTI. If the smell come back try to figure out where it’s coming from. If it’s her skin it may be yeast or just her food. Hopefully it was just because she needed a good washing. Keep us posted.

Thanks guys. The smell is better. I think she was just really dirty when I picked her up. She still has an odor when she’s wet but it’s more of just a wet dog smell.

HI Kathy, welcome to GoldenDoodles…

As for Stinky doodle.. there is a reason for odor regardless of what your Vet told you..    If not ear infections, or wet hair around mouth and teeth; The reason has to be her food...  I would not even bother calling the breeder.. (they probably feed mom the same problem and could be throughout her system.)    I fed Victors puppy for two years.   Sold in feed stores only..     Buy nothing from the grocery store until you identify the issue.     No people food, unless you make your own chicken and rice w/Carrots.   No onions.     You can also purchase raw food at Pet Smart or Health Food stores..  Make sure you keep up with proteen for growing bone..    I also purchase knuckle bones for them to chew on.. Great for keeping teeth clean and heathy.     You might introduce 'greenies' putting mint scent into system quickly..

I hope this helps... do your own research..  Stinky Puppies is an unhealthy puppy..

Hi Kathy and welcome.  I haven't been around much lately and a lot of the older members seem to be using Facebook.  I'll have to remind them that they need to pop in every once in awhile. I agree with DonMarie.  I was going to say ear infection.  Or try another Vet.  Just like our Drs some are good and others not so good. Where did you buy her.  Check with them.  Good luck and keep us in the loop.

Can you tell where the odor is coming from, anywhere in particular? They are prone to ear infections.   Are you using a dog shampoo?  Try another vet?
