My white Doodle, Sophie gets a brownish stain around her mouth and I have noticed other white Doodle's faces stay white.  Is there a reason for this or is there a way to keep their faces white?  Thanks!!!

Pedro has the same and in spots on his legs or even chest where he licks, it's the colour in the food. We are doing our best to clean it although the colour won't go away easily, but the other factor to consider is that if food gets stuck in the hair around their mouth it can start to rot and smell yucky.

Ah ha!  I found it!  The blog called "smelly face".  It's about staining too,  not just odor. Hope it helps!

Some of Marley's hair is also darker, from his mother, the retriever, no odor. Some also say their saliva will change the color.

generally it is the color in food... I also make sure her muzzle is clean.. interestingly enough the cocker who is white around his mouth does not discolor.

Thank you!  Sophie has no odor whatsoever which is good.  I tried to find something on this site regarding this topic and had no luck. Maybe someone can locate it.

Picco has stains around his mouth and his paws where he licks. It's very little so I don't worry about it. I know some dogs get worse and have an odor. I think there was a discussion recently about this awhile ago - if anyone can recall that discussion and lead you to it.

Thanks girls for the replies.  I do think the area gets discolored because it stays wet half of the time!  It does give her character!!  (Just blows my mind when I see a doodle with a perfectly white face!!)  Have a great weekend!

Is it for sure stains, or could it be that her hair color is just darker?  My Trixie has darker hair around her beard area and also on her "elbows".  Gives her character I think, and likewise your Sophie! :)

Drool. Eli's mouth is always "stained" or just plain dirty. I'm forever refreshing his water bowl as soon as he comes in from outside because his nose is always to the ground. I think it's just because there's so much beard there and even when he's been bathed, he has some faint tan coloring in spots from his  retriever Mom's coloring. It always makes me chuckle because it doesn't show up in photographs and I sometimes think, "gee Eli, why aren't you as snowy white as your pictures?"
