A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

Last evening our doorbell rang around 5.30 p.m. I wasn't going to answer it because it's so embarrassing when Elliott and Spencer act like a couple of junk yard dogs, barking and carrying on so much you can't hear yourself think. But, since it was early, I thought it might be kids collecting canned goods or something other than a sales person. So I went to the door.

The boys were in fine form, jumping and barking up complete bedlam, as I opened the door just far enough to wedge my face in it and block the boys with my body. By that time, the 20 something fellow outside had backed from the door to the top step of the porch. He started to talk, while dog heads appeared on one side of me, the other side of me, through my legs, trying to get to him, and continuing to bark insanely.

Because they were so loud and he was backed up away from the door, it was really difficult to hear. I caught the occasional word and was trying to lip read. When he paused, I looked at him and said, "I'm sorry. It was hard to hear you clearly, but did you ask if we were interested in a home security system?" At that point, he went blank, clearly an OMG moment. He grinned, said "have a great evening" and left.

Kathy, i'm just going through some older posts and came across this one! I like it - so darned funny.  Even funnier is your thought on what might happen if the frisbee salesman came.  That thru me over the edge because I can easily get a mental picture of that happening.  Our girls do bark and make a fuss with a visitor or door knocker, but they are almost manageable.  On the other hand if the caller had a flyer or frisbee, there would be no hope. LOL.  Good blog.  Hope you've had a great holiday.

"....a couple of junk yard dogs"!  Hilarious!!  Pearl our lab NEVER barks.  So when Rex barks, although it's not often, I am so happy.  We have tons of 10 year old and under kids plus their parents coming and going and he NEVER barks when they come up and ring the bell.  It's like he knows when someone hasn't been here before and is a stranger.  I LOVE it.  I say he is my home security system!  I feel so secure having him because the running joke before he came into our lives was that Pearl wouldn't even get up if there were danger staring her in the face!  She is so mellow and sweet!  Rex is mellow and so sweet but his bark sounds like business!!

Oh toooo funny!  That is a Reader's Digest story if I ever read one!  Gizmo does the same thing.  I'm trying to teach him to sit in the LR and just watch, but it's not possible to do that if I'm the only one home.  If Terry is there, he can help.  Our Doodles are great protection ... they sound soooo BIG!  Oh, yeah ... mine IS!  LOL

Funny Kathy.  We don't need a security system either.    But I'll tell you if Mark isn't home I won't answer the door at all.  I don't even look out to see who it was.  Pemon will bark his head off and sometimes he fools us and will go in his crate and look out the window at the person.  LOL

My worst fear is that a frisbee seller will arrive at my door, frisbee in hand..........can you imagine the lawsuit? LOL

Oh this is funny and pawsome at the same time! Elliott and Spencer, Special Doodle Agents, good job in protecting your Mommy!

Pedro does what we call "the intruder alert" when he barks really fiercely and protective, the Chinese Food delivery guy always backs away or looks frightened when we come to the door, struggling to keep Mr. Pedro inside, but truth is, once the door is open and he knows it's not Frankenstein, BigFoot or any other monster, he turns into mush and would gladly let anyone in just in exchange for a belly rub... They're funny our Doodle protectors! Loving paws!

A sweet dog that barks at strangers is the BEST security system

Picco occasionally runs to the door. I kinda wish he would be more aggressive over it, but then, not.  He doesn't always back at our incessant neighbor dogs, I guess he has to be in the right mood.  When he decides to bark at a visitor, he grabs a toy and runs to me.
