Rapid breathing at rest? Too hot?

Hey all!

Im a first time doodle owner with a 7 month old teddybear goldendoodle named Bear. He has thick, long white fur and he loves to lay on cold surfaces. I've noticed that he breathes rapidly when he is sleeping or at rest. Is this normal? Is his fur making him too warm??

Thanks for any input!

Yup, Eli did the same. He's a year now and breathes normally in fact sometimes I have to watch his chest to make sure he is breathing!

Stephanie, when Pedro was a puppy and he did that, I even thought he had some lung problem and took him to the vet and they checked him completely and he was fine. It seems to be a large breed thing and Pedro still does it a little bit in really hot weather.

Yup, Pemon did it too as a pup!  Really concerned me.

Both of mine did it too as pups, but no longer.

Sometimes Ginger will do that when she is sitting with me on the couch - and Ginger's 5 !

Hi All!  I noticed the same thing with our Spence when he was younger.  Now that he's a mature Dood of 2 years  :-)  he breathes at a normal rate.

I used to think something was wrong with Dulcie, because she breathed so fast (almost like panting in her sleep!)  She is the most hot-natured dog I have ever owned and I have never seen her shiver, not even when our temps are in the teens.  We like the white noise of a fan by our bed even in the winter when we keep our house at 62 degrees at night- she sleeps right in front of it!  She is a year old now and does not breathe as rapidly as she did before, but still LOVES the cold.

Spencer is 6 months. Same thing. They are like human babies, breathe almost double adult rate. But puppies breath so much louder!

Zeke is 4 and has always done the same thing. I've had the vet check him and he is fine. I think when he sleeps and he very deeply asleep and dreams a lot.
