A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

I hesitated to post this, there has been so much sadness, but I am hoping this story has a happy ending.

Quinn just came home after spending 3 days in critical care (yes again). This time it is not his seizures. He was admitted due to protein loss and a platelet count of zero!! These are the results of a multitude of tests:

Normal kidney function and liver function; Chest X-Rays unremarkable

Symptoms: Slightly enlarged liver and spleen; Low platelet count; Low protein; Low globulin; Low cholesterol; Low vitamin B12; Positive Lyme and Anaplasma

Diagnosis: Presumptive Protein-losing Enteropathy (Gastrointestinal Disease); Hypoproteinemia (low protein); Mild mitral and tricuspid regurgitation (murmurs); Mild DCM (heart disease) (likely secondary to current systemic illness); Thrombocytopenia (low platelets) (likely secondary to Lyme and anaplasma)

He is on a trunk load of meds and will be getting B12 injections for the next 6 weeks. He will go back for retest CBC, chemistry, and echo in 3-4 weeks.

Cancer did not show in any of the tests, but it has not been completely ruled out. Biopsies of the liver and spleen were discussed, but because of what DID show up along with what was ruled out, we agreed to treat for GI Disease and keep a close watch.

He was a pretty sick pup earlier this week, but we are seeing a gradual return of our happy boy, and we are remaining optimistic that he will continue to improve and all will be well again.

The posts lately have been sad and heartbreaking, so I am going to end with some good news...

Quinn hasn't had a seizure in 5 weeks!

Gracie was sure that all the trips and visits to ER and all the rooms full of people, dogs, and cats were purely for her social enrichment! She continues to love her agility classes and she continues to be our healthy, happy and energetic shining star of a girl. Contrary to Quinn, she is the poster child for good breeding!

Would love to hear some happy stories and see some fun photos :) Please share!

So sorry to hear. So much sickness seems to be happening to our doodle friends. Our prayers and best wishes that Quinn continues to improve. Hugs

So sorry to hear this - Quinn & Gizmo (and families) are on my mind and wishing for good progress/recovery.   Picco's hiking buddy has bone cancer and possibly one more month with us.  7 yr old golden lab mix sweetheart named Cora.  Picco can't visit her due to her frailty.   I'm thankful everyday for Picco's good health.  He did just had a staff infection in his ears but a couple weeks of antibiotics cleared it up - oh so simple compared to what you are all going through!  Best wishes to you all.
