A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

My puppy Leo is now 9 weeks old. My concern is, he sleeps a lot during the day and well at night from 10.00 until 5 or so I just want it to know if it is normal for puppies to sleep that much, I mean while he is awake he is fine, he plays with my children or with me and he looks normal but most of the time he is sleeping. Is this normal?

Thank you.

Yes, Carla, like everyone says it is totally normal. I wondered, too,  with Zig just a few weeks ago. He is 17 weeks now and isn't sleeping like that anymore. :) Like Debbie said, I need a nap as well! He is actually asleep now...of course, while I am starting dinner and have a ton things going on! lol Enjoy that quiet time! :)

Thank you everyone so I think is normal for puppies like it is for babies :)

We're so worn out after the 20% that we all have to take naps too...that's why we don't realize how much they sleep! ;)

That's probably pretty accurate Debra, it's that 20% that can be pretty wild, and fun too.

I remember wondering the same...then came the days of nipping, wrestling, jumping, chewing....Enjoy his babyhood and brace yourself! ;)

The time will come when you will wish he would sleep more to give you a break from puppy antics. Enjoy this!

Perfectly normal.  When I brought Dulcie home at 9 weeks, she slept 19-20 hours a day - up at 6, back to sleep at 8, up at 11, back to sleep at 12, wake up for supper, then back to sleep, etc.   Just like human babies, they need their sleep to grow!  A lot of us have asked this question - I googled it when I first got Dulcie because I was so worried - it had been many years since I had had a puppy!
