Just wondered if any of you have pet insurance and what kind you might have.  Thanks.

Hi Barbara! Here is a link to a thread on the topic, might be helpful: http://goldendoodles-labradoodles.ning.com/profiles/blogs/pet-insur...

I ended up getting Trupanion. Luckily haven't had use for it yet, but you just never know. What have you decided?

I got the ASPCA insurance after doing some research which included asking the vet's office if they've heard any gripes from other pet owners about any particular insurance. I was surprised at how some quotes differed. I've only made one claim in which they paid their portion promptly! I've had 2 former dogs get cancer so that's why I opted to get coverage for my Doodle.

Thanks to both of you.  It was brought up to me yesterday that it is a good investment.  I have also heard about people who put away a certain amount each month for things, but that does not happen in my simple brain.  Great in theory, but would never happen here...

Luke is wonderful and the smartest dog in the entire world!!!  When I brought him home, he weighed 13 pounds.  That was 2 1/2 months ago and since then, he has gained over 30 pounds.  At 45 pounds, I quit weighing him.  His feet still look like he has a long way to go to grow into them.  I cannot get over how sweet he is.  Still uses me as a chew toy and rips my clothes just because he can, but gives more of his very own hugs than I have ever gotten from another dog.

Thanks for the advice.  I will definitely get something because vets are super expensive!

We don't have any.  I think it's a good idea though because we really aren't in any kind of financial condition to take on something big.  But of course we would find a way.

How's little Luke doing? I hope all is going better every day.

Regarding your question about pet insurance, I will share with you that I'm a big fan of it because unfortunately we had to use it and it made things a lot easier in terms of leaving the financial component aside when making health care decisions to Pedro's Angel Renata who got a rare form of cancer and passed away  a few years back. Health care can get expensive quickly and although I've hear theories about people that save up a fixed amount a month to take care of unexpected expenses in the future, you can never know when something will happen and how fast the bills will add up.

With Pedro, we have had pet insurance from day one and we've had to use it a few times and I have no complaints about the services or the exclusions. Actually these days, because the Vet recommended to feed him a prescription food formula, the insurance covers half of the cost and it basically makes up for what we pay in monthly premiums. I just got a notice yesterday that they will cover the glucosamine vet formula chews that should help him grow with hopefully no issues with his joints.

I suggest you look at different options and compare prices and coverages but the insurance that we have is with Trupanion and they are amazing.

I hope this helps. Best of lucks and loving paws from Pedro and I
