Our new collars and a 100% improvement on our walks!!!

Good Morning Everyone!

I thought I would share a quick walking story. Since I've had two knee surgeries, good walking is really important to me. With the pups regular collars on the walks...the tug was on!!! Yesterday I took Daisy and Jax into our local petsmart and an amazing lady named Shelly helped us fit the pups with two "Easy Walk Harness" systems. OH MY GOODNESS...did this improve our walk. No tugging, no pulling, just an easy walk with two doodles!  She tried many different types and we must have had 10 walks around the store.  When I got home I was anxious to give it a try on my own. Total success!!! This morning we had a long walk and I came home with a smile. I think the pups like it better too. So now we are on our way to mastering the walk!!! I just couldn't wait to share.

I use a slip leash (circle the head at throat level)... they are still wearing a leather collar with tags, but not use...  They wait for me to step out the door 1st when I have a walking leash on.   Trust me they know when I take the leash from the hanger they are in for fun.   They run and jump each other.  But they sit for the leash and are under control before I open the door... At 19 months rarely do I need to correct, just slight reminders.  Both do still carry the tail high, proud of themselves.  But the high tail sets off other dogs in the neighborhood, so I continue to remind them they are not to challenge.

Thats awesome - thank you for sharing... Opie mastered the walk early but now with him entering adolscents its like he 'forgot' everything and were back at square one!

Hey, Lynn, Daisy & Jax where have you been? Would love to hear from you with some current pictures.

I've never walked him without the Trainer on, but I have used it when I've forgotten to turn it on or when the battery was very low.  So, during those times he always responded the same way.  When he doesn't have the trainer on, he sits, comes and waits....not sure about the "heel" cuz I've never asked him to do it except when we walk.

Does Gizmo do all these things when he doesn't have the field trainer collar on?

I tried the EZ Walk Harness and the one you put over their nose.  He hated both!!  We started with the one over the nose when he was just a few weeks old.  He hated it so much we went to the harness which was supposed to be better.  It was better, but not good for Gizmo.  He'd run whenever I got it out to take a walk.

We purchased a Field Trainer from Invisible Fence.  It's an electronic collar that has 8 settings on it and a tone.  Gizmo learned in just a couple sessions and it didn't hurt him.  We were able to keep it setting #1 or #2 at the most.  Level #1 is just a little tingle/vibration.  Level #2 is just a bit more.  The settings go all the way to #8 which I would NEVER use.  Now he walks off leash all the time.  He has learned to heel, sit at crosswalks, come when called, and wait for me when told to after I allow him to run ahead a little.  He loves his walks now and gets excited when I get the collar out and turn it on.

I'm so glad to hear that some of you have these collars too. I just could keep walking and walking with the makes such a difference. Wish I would have found them earlier!!

Congrats! This is great news!

Pedro and I haven't been on walks lately, Daddy takes him for walks, I prefer to take him to the off leash doggie park... but we got him the EZ Dog harness and I also found it to make a huge difference in the walks.

Sounds like you've found a great solution for Daisy and Jax, so enjoy!

Loving paws from Pedro (who is actually snoring now...LOL)

We've been using one on Mazie since she was in her puppy class so I got one for Max.  There is such a difference!  They know when they have the leash hooked up to the collar, they have so much strength in their necks but put that easy walker on and total turn around.  Mazie walks next to me so nicely when she has hers on, loose leash... I couldn't be more happier.  I know Max will be the same... he's learning fast.  I would recommend the easy walker harness to anyone just because it works so nicely!
