My humans are into hockey...and I don't get it!

Ok fellow Goldendoodles and Labradoodles and all the doodles and the pups and even kitties and other pets that keep humans at home... What is it with humans and sports on TV? My humans, all three of them: Daddy, Human brother and Mommy are into this sport called Hockey. What I think it is, is a bunch of humans in uncomfortable-looking clothes and shoes with blades, running on ice with a stick that instead of lying down to chew, they use to try and hit a round object they call a "puck", which by the way, I also think would be better for chewing (I had one when I was a littler baby). And they run from one side of the ice surface to the other and sometimes one of the humans -who at this time of year have hairy faces almost like us, but not as cute- hits the puck and pushes it inside a "net" and a horn goes off and people, i.e. MY humans, scream like crazy and jump up and down and hug each other and sometimes even kiss each other... The weird thing is that sometimes even when the puck goes inside this "net" thing, my humans get sad or mad... not sure what THAT is all about. I mean, if the point is to get the puck (instead of chewing on it) inside the "net" WHY don't they get excited every time it happens? More intriguing, WHY do they get it OUT of the net after just a few seconds if they have spent a good 20 minutes trying to get it in?

I know. Trying to explain everything that amuses our beloved humans is impossible and in any case, it doesn't mean that I love them any less. They make me nervous and I jump up and down and bark when they get so excited because they startle me, but I'm happy if they're happy and they try to tell me that it's OK, only that they seem so wound up that it makes me wonder what is going on.

Now, the other thing is that we live in Vancouver and from what I have heard the humans from Vancouver are very, very good at this Hockey sport thing and they have got a lot of pucks inside the "net" (they've still brought them out - not sure why) and they've won, which seems to be like when we fetch a ball and bring it to the humans for throwing, it makes us proud to know that they're learning, right? So this Vancouver Canucks team are very close to making all the humans in the city very proud and if they manage to put lots of pucks in the net and beat the Bruins (a new question, why would BEARS play this Hockey sport thing? - I don't get it!) they will get this huge and shiny water bowl! Maybe they also get treats with the bowl and that's why it's so exciting! This water bowl is called the Stanley Cup and I really hope that the Vancouver Canucks win it so my humans are happy... And also, so we can go back to our normal bedtime, because that's another problem...!

Go Canucks, go and loving paws,

Good Luck to you tonight.  Bruce this is the final game you'll have to watch!

Oh Ginger, tell your Daddy that the Stanley Cup final is not over yet. Tonight's the last game -the human team needs to win 4 out of 7 games and they are tied at 3 each right now. Tell him thanks for the sympathy because my Mommy and Daddy were quite sad and upset the other night, but today they still have hope!

As to what is a Canuck, I think there are many theories but it essentially is a Canadian and the word comes from old words of old people in the Canadian land. Mommy says hi and thanks for the support!

Passed by the final game while channel jumping...saw the Canucks down 4-1.  I guess they lost, so here's my sympathy card....8^(

What is a Canuck, anyway ?

Ginger and Bruce and Laura and Gracie - thank you for your support of the Canucks humans that can't get the puck in the net (maybe they should chew it first)... Mommy and Daddy are sad right now, but I will try to comfort them with my puppy-dog-look! Loving paws from Pedro! And Go Canucks, Woof!

Pedro, I know your humans, like me, are very unhappy tonight :(  Keep your paws crossed that your Vancouver Canucks can put that (not for chewing) puck in the net (and then out) at least one more time than those Bears and soon that BIG water bowl will be theirs and your humans will be kissing, kissing, kissing!!!!

Allesandra:  That was priceless.  Really enjoyed your Blog.  And I love the picture.

Bruce:  Thanks for telling us about the books I'll have to check them out.

What a great Blog, Pedro !

I'm like you...I don't understand Hockey.

When I got to the attached photo, I had to smile the biggest smile EVER.  Great Photo.

For those that like this blog, I heartedly recommend a couple of books written by a guy named Spencer Quinn.  His first is "Dog On It", his second is "And Thereby Hangs a Tail".  He has a third book, but can't remember the name right off hand.  They are all kinda light detective mysteries written in the first person from the eyes of a dog.  Great light reading and great insight into how a dog thinks.  And, Alessandra, you are as good a writer as Quinn. !
