A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

My Goldendoodle was diagnosed with Addison's Disease.

At this point we are trying with our vet to stabilize our Molly.  I have had issues with Molly from the moment we got her.  From the moment I got her we had to call her breeder.   We discussed her lack of eating, vomiting, diarrhea, and after 5 years we finally have an answer.   I received a text a few months back from another breeder that I should have Molly checked for Addisons because it ran in her pedigree.  I called our vet and after an ACTH test,  we found out she has Addisons.  Five years of illnesses, exploratory surgery, and near death situations where she had to be IV'd and hospitalized.  I cannot tell you the thousands of dollars we have spent to what seemed no avail.   I am frustrated, depressed about this, and struggling with her meds (titration) and incontinence.    We love her so much, and wish we could have alleviated five years of heartache and suffering on her part and ours.  It was very stressful running to emergency clinics and our vet every time we had a situation.   My hope is that if your pet vomits sometimes, turns away from their food, has occasionally diarrhea, diagnosed with giardia or IBS or coilitis, acts lethargic, etc.  check and make sure their pedigree doesn't have Addison's Disease, AND realize that it is NOT just in standard pooldes.  Molly's lineage had minature poodles.  Addison's is a horrible disease and extremely costly to diagnose and treat.

Oh Lake Girl, I'm so sorry to hear that Molly has not been well.  And I thank you for pointing this out to the community.  That is what I love about this community.  I have learned so much being a member.  How is Molly doing now?  she will be in my prayers.

So sorry to hear this and the heartaches that you have gone through with Molly. I hope that a treatment that is manageable can be put in place for her and that going forward you have the peace of mind of knowing that you have and continue to do everything you can for her. Hang in there! Loving paws!

ooooh.......... thank you for posting...  I hate a breeder who sees only $$$;   depending 100%  on the buyer's love.

How frightening this must have been for such a very long time!  It always perplexes me when none of the medical people (and I'm sure you have seen many in 5 years time) think to check for things like this.  I hope that now that Molly has a diagnosis that her illness can be managed so that you all have some peace and happiness and that Molly is comfortable!!  You're in my prayers...
