A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

After noticing that both the "counter surfing" blog and Monica are gone, I sent a message to Lois I mistakenly thought that Lois was the moderator, but as it turns out, she was the right person to contact anyway. Lois said she didn't mind if I pasted her response into an open blog, so I have done so. I have to admit, I was feeling alarmed by what I was reading on that blog. Any who were following it know that. Posted words will never have the quality of a conversation, and the lack of tone and conversational details can often lead to misinterpretation. While the idea of mouse traps and shock collars does make me wince, Lois's sharing has shown me that my perception was faulty and my concern was unwarranted. I thought that those who shared my concerns may want to read what Lois had to say about Monica and Murphy. My final thought on this is that I am very sorry if I played a part in Monica withdrawing from this community. Here is Lois's message to me:

well a few things so we are on the same page.   No I am not the moderator.  But I don't believe anyone other than Monica herself removed her membership.  (I would love to know myself).  I know she removed her membership because she sent me mail (just as you have) saying just that, she would no longer be posting...

It would not be necessary to feel you yourself did anything wrong.  Most of the new postings are coming from new dog owner not just Goldendoodles.

You also don't need to worry about Murphy.  I don't know that anyone but me knows who Monica is..  She and family were one of the many farmland homes that were washed away in the flooding in 2010. Losing not just her car but husbands truck and farm equipment.  Fema did little to help..   This is the reason there are multi-families living together.  Another interesting fact is that Monica herself was/is a Service Dog Trainer and had been for 12yrs.  If she stated that Murphy needed anything...  I believed her.   Lots of experience with show dogs in her younger years..  Probably, no, I know she has had more success and knowledge than I myself.

She thanked me for the conversations concerning Murphy and was gone before I had a chance to contract.   The last thing she posted was a picture of Murphy saying the collar was working and she finally had his attention.  He was no longer jumping all over the kitchen and barking constantly.   And she, finally can see a future for him as a S.D., which is why she chose to rescue him in the 1st place.

I for one will surely miss her input to the community.    Lois

ps:  I have no problem if you want to copy and paste this into open blog area, but I'll leave that up to you.

Pss:  I'm glad you asked, no one else has asked.

Lois I didn't ask because I know what happened.  She said she was resigning and she did.  I could not and would not agree with what she had to say.  I think it was a cruel method of training.  I myself would never let her train my Doodle.  I wonder what Caesar (Dog Whisperer) would say about her method of training?  Anyway I could go on.  I don't feel she needed to resign because sometimes she did have some great input in the community, but this was not one of those times, in my opinion.  Besides I think she over reacted because on behalf of Jan explained where the community stood on these methods of training.  I rest my case and I love this community, the members and all the beautiful Doodles.

Monica left of her own accord after I posted a notice that the Ning Community does not condone the use of shock collars and other negative training methods.  That positive training methods can and do work very well and are the humane approach to training.

From my perspective as Moderator, part of this community's purpose is to help newbie dog / puppy owners with raising their puppy using humane positive reward-based training methods.  Hence, the notice.

I am not really sure what happened with Monica and Murphy. I will admit that I didn't really followed Monica's blogs because a couple of times she shared things that made me somewhat uncomfortable. I did however, understand that she had experience with rescue pups and with training service dogs so I trusted that she knew what she was doing. We had just gone through that lady that had issues between her Doodle and her cat and that withdrew from the community after misinterpreting some well meaning words so I just don't want to get into that with anyone. This is a community where Pedro and I have found love, support, care and trust and we wish to share our adventures together in the Doodle life appreciating everyone's input and comments. Wishing everyone well and loving paws, Pedro and Alessandra

ps:  new Doodle owners not necessarily other breed owners, in answer to your question. And not really any core members...   although I personally consider Grace and Pemon  our official greeter and a couple of known vet techs who are great with the latest.  Neither Monica or I were 'core' members.  I assume others see me as a trainer which I have been, but no - one asked me for my two cents.. (LOL take notes... in another few months it will be your turn to encourage others)

We all enjoy Alessandra because Pedro writes his own blog.  Bruce has a calendar in the making and others just have really, really good videos..   There are several who have AKC titled Campanion Dogs and I'd love to read more from them.

It is Blue and Jan would keep us up and running as a web address, so we can share with each other.

I also will miss Monica and hearing of Murphy's progress. We also have rescued dogs in the past and the last love of our lives was a rescue Lab who was people aggressive and we were afraid she would bite someone and this was a problem here a the Mission and anywhere else. We had to take some training measures we had never used before because if we took her back that would be the end of her because she had other issues also such a being hit by a car and a hip that didn't heal right because no one attended to it in time. So Daryl had to carry all 80 pounds of her everywhere is went for 6 weeks. But she understood that the behavior was not unacceptable and knew we loved her and were trying to save her. She became a loyal pet that we could trust around anyone. She would even give her toys to the children here at the Mission and sit with the babies. As I said before I am so thankful Murphy has Monica. She truly is saving his life. Thank you CL and Lois for sharing. I must admit I was so upset when I thought Monica was removed that I thought about leaving also. Glad I waited to hear the rest of the story. Thanks for your candidness.
