A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

We just put down a deposit for a goldendoodle this summer.  I have 3 children.  They will turn 9, 6 and 3 this summer.  Is there a better sex to get with children?

oh, forgot to mention...we neutered our male weimer at a year and a half, after he studded a litter.  Didn't slow him down a bit.

my experience, with one male dog and now two females, is that the females will settle down earlier than the males.  Both were frantic and fun as pups.  The females settled down, one after her litter of pups and spaying, the other after her first season and spaying.  The male (a weimaraner) never did settle down...he was up and running until he died.  Consequently, I'm a female guy and think a female would be best with kids.  Good luck with your dood...we just LOVE ours.

Thanks Connie, I think we will have to be very diligent with the jumping.  Its cute when they are small but they grow so fast.

My dog is 15 month old girl, because my husband was adamant that we get a girl.  He didn't want any marking etc.  I have been around a lot of dogs; doodles and others, you are more sure of no marking and dominant behavior with a female, but I have seen a lot of great well behaved male dogs who weren't dominant or didn't mark, especially if they are neutered young.  As far as children I don't think the sex really matters, the dogs are really enthusiastic and if you get one on the bigger side be careful, the one thing we tell anyone is do not allow them to jump ever, even when they are cute little puppies. Our dog is awesome but we are still working on jumping and it has vastly improved.
