A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

Bear, an almost 6yr. old male Goldendoodle, lost his closest friend 2 weeks ago (a 9 yr. old female black Lab) and he is still depressed.

Do you ever learn of an older Goldendoodle that would like a home due to circumstances of their owner having to give her/him up?  I would prefer one that is in So. CA if possible.

Warm regards,

Anne Purnell

Anne, sorry that I didn't say sorry for your loss.  I was in a hurry to comment on where you might find a new doodle friend.

Jan, that is very interesting about Craigs list & meeting at the police station!  There has been so many dog/puppy scams that seem to be happening.

I am so sorry for your loss and your sadness. It is never easy. I think a new companion might be just what Bear needs.

I know you said Goldendoodle, but I have to share this anyway... I see wonderful rescues on the fb page, "Sighthounds Worldwide Needing Homes" There are a variety of purebreds and a variety of mixes. The sizes are usually larger, but definitely not all giants. They are located all over the US, and it is not uncommon to see rescues in S. CA. You will have to submit a request to join, but I definitely think it is worth a look. Our home is full at the moment, but that still doesn't stop me from visiting this page on an almost daily basis. Good luck!

First let me say I'm so very sorry for your family's loss.  It must be heartbreaking to see Bear so lonely.

I think DonMarie & Picco gave you some great suggestions, and there is little more I could add.  Well, maybe, if you are interested, you can set up a google alert on the word "goldendoodle", and sometimes the results (which get emailed to you), include folks who have a pet they need to rehome.  Admittedly, it is a long-shot, but perhaps worth the trouble.   One thing our neighborhood police suggest, is to arrange a meeting with a Craigslist ( or similar unknown person ), in the parking lot of the police station.  You can alert the police to your reasons for being there, and they can help keep you safe.  Obviously, if the other party refuses to meet in that location, it is probably not wise to meet up with them.

Also, check with your local shelters, let them know of your interest, so that when they get in a dog that meets your interest, they can hopefully contact you first.

Finally, check . Goldendoodles are often listed as poodle-mix, (as are labradoodles).  There are many many great dogs sitting in shelters looking for a new home, perhaps yours? ;)

Hope this helps, and again, I am so sorry to hear of your loss, it is never easy.
