Jan, has a wonderful post....  slow, slow, or slower making the experience fun.    Take her/him to the driveway on a long line and call her/him back for a treat...  lots of treats..      I have also added a 'gentle leader' for another dog that I did not own as a puppy.  ( works like a halter on a horse)   Foremost is respect for you at the end of any leash...  Pulling is neither fun for you or the dog..

Is it just getting him used to the leash?  I would clip it on and let it drag around for awhile, unless he chews on it.

I looked for an article, and this is what I came up with, although not leash specific - http://goldendoodles.com/train_burwell/training_puppy.htm

Basically, start slow with your expectations of puppy on leash.  Is your pup balking at being on leash, make it fun, bring a toy or treat.  If puppy pulls, change directions you're going and again happy voice and the toy or treat to encourage them to follow.  Sometimes you'll find yourself walking in circles, but no matter, the idea is to keep puppy's attention on you and for you to be the leader.

At any rate, it depends a lot on where you and your puppy are in the process.  Once your puppy is old enough and had enough of his/her shots, a group beginning obedience series is always helpful (preview the trainer's methods, to be sure they're using positive reinforcement rather than old-school punishment techniques).

Good luck, have fun!
