Can anyone advise me as to the best way to train Millie not to pull on leash.  She is 4months old now and sometimes she pulls quite a bit.  Have got a trainer helping me -the method she told me to use is going to be very slow to master (I think)     The method I am using is to hold my clenched first (with a treat in it) and put it in front of her nose while holding her lead with my left hand and taking a step with her leash loose - started with one step and have to try and lead up to 300 steps.   Its quite tiring to do as there is a lot of bending down as she is too small as yet so be at the level of my hand.   The trainer is  brilliant but is just coming once a week for 6 weeks.   Millie is bad for jumping towards cars when they go passed (when on the leash)  I will have to try and stop her doing that - and as for jumping on people thats is her favourite pass-time.  Suppose that will pass as she gets older (lets hope so anyway)   I must say though that when she is out walkies and off the leash, she comes the minute she is called (wonder what she will be like when there are loads of distractions)!!!!!

Thanks Lois; and I love that idea about the whistle trainer.....what a great idea.....then I don't have to yell 'come' when she's far off......I can just use the whistle.....the hand signals work too...we are working on them with Molly.  She's only 3.5 months - will be 4 months September 15th, but a quick learner.  She is also smart enough to try to trick me....got to keep one step ahead of this one... LOL

Well Bruce, I got Mr. Magoo from an older gentleman as I was coming out of the grocery store one evening. He had this box of puppies that he said he was taking to the shelter, and would I please take one. (I swear he saw the sucker stamp on my face). My husband and I had just moved to South Carolina and we did not have a dog and I had been begging for one. The man said they were 6 weeks old. So I get this little pup home and as I'm watching him run into things head first and jump and flinch at shadows, I decided to call him Mr. Magoo, then I took him to the vets to find out what was wrong with him. Turns out he was only 4 weeks old and his vision just was not developed yet. (He has eagle vision now, He can spot a crum on the floor from 50 feet), Mr. Magoo just kind of stuck.

We call him Goo mostly. so we have GOO, NUG, PUK sounds like a chinese dinner doesn't it!

Yes, how old is he?  You know, almost every dog I look at now I always notice the warmth in their eyes. How in the world can a person be cruel to an animal?  They usually love us unconditionally and depend so much on us, as we depend on them.  And.......................our Doodles are god's creatures, because they are all lovers.

He is hard to get a picture of lately because he hides behind my husband, the person taking the pictures, when Nug and Puk are romping. He wants no part of their party.
