Is this cause for concern: 3 puppies from the litter I am getting died

I thought I would ask?  The breeder let us know that 3 puppies did not make it.  There were 10 in the litter and they are waiting to see how the others do over time.   I don't know much about "why" she did say something about mother and milk, puppies not taking milk? Not sure if that is correct.  I guess I will ask more questions next time I talk with her.

Paige be sure you are getting a health warrenty.  I sure you will get a report from the Vet on her health before they release her to you.   But it sounds like Lana is doing just fine.

Not her 1st litter but larger than her other litters.

Good to hear!  Just curious - was this her first litter? If not was it bigger than her other litters?

Just an update.  Everything is going well with Lana (mom) and puppies.  She is on a supplement.  The 7 puppies are all healthy. And the vet says even though Lana eats a great food it was just too much for her body to nurse too.

That is a large litter and sometimes puppies fail to thrive. I'd watch everything closely, talk to the vet yourself and make sure your contract has a money back guarantee. Tough as that sounds, doodles aren't cheap and you will want to be able to look for another puppy if you decide not to take one of these or worse. So sorry to hear this, it's such an exciting time and sad to be tainted with uncertainty. Good Luck and keep us in the loop.

I hope the other puppies check out fine. Is the mother a large dog? 10 puppies sound like a big litter. Not that I know anything about breeding.  Curious to find out after the vet check and how this turns out.

Thank you for all the questions to think of and ask. They have a vet coming out tomorrow to check all the other pups. So far they believe it was fading puppy or failure to thrive. So all other puppies are fine at this point but they will have the vet check them out. When I hear back from her I will hopefully know more. Thanks!!

How sad. It is true that especially in a large litter, some puppies may not survive. However, 3 is a large number. I would be asking about birth order of the puppies that died, vaccines for mom, mom's general health, other dogs in home, exposure to outside pathogens such as many visitors, or children who may have had chickenpox etc (fatal for puppies usually). How long from birth to death, birth date relative to due date, care during delivery of the puppies, time spent in labour and time from first puppy to last. What kind of care did mom have in pregnancy? Is this first litter for mom or for breeder?
So sorry to hear this news. Yes Paige, ask lots of questions. Lots online about this topic, some good, some not so much. Ask your vet too. This is heartbreaking I know, but you want a healthy puppy. Keep posting here. Lots of great information here.
