A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

In search of a trust worthy breeder (midwest)

About 3 weeks ago, we lost our 5 year old golden-doodle to limphoma. We are going to be moving into a new house in May, and I really want to bring home a golden doodle at the end of Summer. After having Jack for 5 years, we know that we will always have a golden doodle. If anyone has resources for us to start our search we would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you

I am so sorry I never responded to any of you. I truly appreciate your kind words. As a matter of fact, we did get another goldendoodle! About 2 months after Jack died, a friend of mine from high school messaged me and asked if we would like her goldendoodle-they are military, and are going to be stationed in Hawaii and couldn't take him with them. So our newest member is now Jeff! I cannot tell you how many times we have called him Jack! He's a big boy. He's 3 years old and weighs 85lbs. I think he has more poodle him because he's just SO tall. We love him to pieces!

Ashlee, did you ever get another Doodle?  Would love to hear from you.

Ashlee, I am so sorry to hear about Jack. I know how hard it is to lose one of your pets to cancer.  I am a fairly new golden doodle owner (Wrigley is 10 months old) and new to the community. I have had other dogs before, but this is my first doodle. I am smitten!  She is the love of my life. (don't tell my husband or kids though). I live in Illinois and researched breeders before we decided upon Christine Phillips at The Paw Pad Goldendoodles in Deer Creek, IL.  She is on the list of recommended breeders. I have nothing but good things to say about her. I have met other people in our area who also have her puppies and everyone I've talked to recommends her.  You might want to check out her website.  Good luck in your search.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  We lost our golden retriever last summer to lymphoma and it took us awhile to decide what to do.  We got Finnegan in November and it has been wonderful to help heal out hearts. I hope you find a wonderful new addition when you're ready.  God bless.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.  I hope you find the perfect doodle to love again.  Please let us know when you find a doodle and post photos.  My heart goes out to you and your family.

Oh Ashlee, I read your story and I teared up ( I am a crier  right Grace?). I am so sorry for your loss but I'm so glad that you are finding the photos on the site healing. I too lost a puppy a few years ago -  cancer of the blood vessels which was terminal and any treatment that we would pursue would have diminished her quality of life so we had to make the tough decision of putting her to sleep, it still breaks my heart when I think about it, but I am also certain that she "sent" Pedro to our lives and it has been so much happiness and goofiness! And of course we remember her so fondly, she will always be with us. Pedro is 5 years old and every second -even right now when he's barking at his Dad and not letting him watch the hockey game, LOL!- is a joy.

We live in Vancouver, Canada so I'm afraid I'm not much help with a breeder recommendation, but I am sure that you will find options and will ultimately be chosen by the Doodle that will bring you joy and keep alive the wonderful memories of Jack. All the best and loving paws from Pedro and I.

Ashlee:  We went through the same thing with our beloved Fletch.  He was 13 years old and developed cancer on his liver.   Weird thing is, it wasn't there 6 months before.  My husband was so close to Fletch.  I was shocked he said no to the operation.  He was kept over night at the Vets (I was out of town and changed my flight immediately)  The next morning Fletch was acting like nothing was wrong.  So we brought him home and he was good for two weeks.  Then we knew it was time and we did not want him to suffer.   So I know what you went through.  We got Pemon almost two months later and it helped, but my husband and I still get very choked up when we talk about Fletch.  But I can tell you that Pemon has really helped.  We will never forget Fletch, but you know a Doodle's personality.  They are goofy and funny and loving and of course I could go on and on.  My husband is very close to Pemon now.    You made a very wise decision.  You're Doodle did not sufer and go through all that horrible treatment which probably would have made him sicker.  Getting another Doodle will help a lot!  Welcome to our community and feel free to get involved anytime you wish.  If you would like you can share your stories and knowledge with the rest of us.

Thanks Ladies. I am so thankful to have found this site. At first I thought it was going to be hard seeing everyone's pictures of golden doodles, but I've found it to be healing. My husband and I were so devestated when this happened. We brought him into the vet thinking he had an infected tooth (he had some weird drooling on one side of his mouth). I took him in on a Thursday and the doctor saw a mass on his tonsil. He had it removed the next day, and the following Wednesday we found out it was the most aggresive form of cancer :( We could have done chemo, but that would have given him and us maybe a year. We decided while he was happy and in good spirits we would put him to sleep. We also have two children, and I wanted them to remember Jack as the loving playful happy dog they have always known. This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make. The worst part, every day since Jack left, my 4 year old daughter asks "Mommy, can Jack come back from heaven yet?" It truly breaks my heart.

Oh Ashlee, so sorry for your loss.  Just tears me apart.  But you are doing the right thing in my opinion, getting another one.  Then your other Doodle can watch over your new Doodle.  Wishing you lots of luck.  Keep us posted!
