How Did You Decide On Your Doodle's Name?

Hi everyone,

My OH and I are going to pick a puppy on the 28th of Jan (sooooooo excited already! Don't know how I'm going to manage to wait for 4 weeks after that to bring him home!) but are having trouble thinking of names. I think we should just wait and see what he looks like before choosing a name but OH is keen on either Dexter or Jasper; how did you guys come up with your dood's name?

Blackjack. Once we went to visti our new English Settler puppy and on the way home we were consdiering names. The stud dog was owned by a friend all all his dogs were named after card games. We choose "Blackjack" because we he had a large black sport around  his left eye despite the rest of him being "ticked" with small spot over his body. A few weeks later we went to pick up the puppy (now named Blackjack on his papers), got him in the car, and started driving home. As we came out form the sharde of the trees we realized his eye patch was BROWN. The lighting in the kennel area was so poor it looked BLACK to us. But the name stuck and there was always a funny story to go with it.

The day we went to view our pup we were in the car for over 6 hours so by the time we got back to my OH's mum's house (we were staying with her for Christmas week) we were about ready to chill out with a celebratory drink after finding our ideal pup. It's a tradition that all our dogs are named after drinks, Miller lite, Murphy, whiskey etc. (we're not alcoholics - honest!) so we were trying to decide what to call the new addition. Since he's black, with a tiny white tuft in the middle of his chest we immediately thought of Guiness, Coffee, Porter, Beamish but none really seemed to fit. I looked down at the drink in my hand and said mmmm this is a nice Hot Toddy... and the name stuck....

I love all the stories behind the names, It seems to make it really personal compared to just choosing a random name. I'm hoping the name will kinda choose itself, it that makes sense.
I don't think I explained myself properly in the original post, the puppies will be 4 weeks old on the 28th so we are allowed to visit and choose one but then they'll be a 4 week wait til he's old enough to come home. I'm counting the days!,

Google was the first dog we bought in 43 years when we didn't know the breeder. (We always had Black Labs and Bernese Mt Dogs) I was thrilled to find the list Blue Ribbon Breeders on the Goldendoodle site, but I still had to research their dogs, talk to the breeders, and then meet the person (and the dogs) we selected. I spend about a month on Google. The rest is history :-)

We wanted something that sounded like she belong with our family. My husband rides motor cycles and has two of them one is a Harley. Well how many dogs have you heard of called Harley, beside she is a girl.  My husbands Harley is a Dyna Wide Glide, so I thought we will call her Dyna. And if you look at her she just looks like a Dyna.

We decided on Gizmo's name while driving to "look" at the litter.  (We knew we were bringing one home!)  I liked Bailey, Max or Baxter, but Terry wanted something different.  I suggested Gizmo - don't know where THAT came from.  I was trying to think of a name that was somewhat original.  Little did I know that everyone has or had or knows someone who has or had a pet named Gizmo!  Once we saw him, we KNEW Gizmo was the right name.  He was into everything all at once - teasing littermates, trying to get our attention, just being downright adorable.  So, it's Gizmo.  He also gets called - Gizzy, Gizmonium (as in pandemonium), Gizlett, Gizmeister, and sometimes Buddy or Baby.

to true Pete..   I was looking for a name in the 'Irish Princess" line and asked my husband what he thought of Isoulda.   I was thinking of an off shoot such as Zola.  Husband picked up on the Z's saying she definitely appeared Izzi to him.   I laughed Izzi stuck.

Love either Dexter or Jasper...   Having a name is a good thing...  Izzi thought her name was "Charlie Sit" for  weeks.
