A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

I got one for you wonderful people.

I love love love!!! The idea that I get to trim my Doodle. I think it will be fun to play with different cuts tell I find one that fits Dexter.

So do you do it your self or do you take your Doodle to a groomer?

What do cut do you do for your Doodle?

Long or short?

I just trimmed Dexter's feet. He was sliding all over my hardwood floors he slipped and fell one to many times so I cut the hair way down.. Took about an hour because he thought it was play time but in the end we got it done. He did not slide on the floor as bad but he did not seem sure how he liked the snow on "naked" paws.

I think Dexter is going to have the fur that curls because his chest and neck already curl a bit. I have had to do sanitary trim on him already and trim around his eyes as well as having his ears plucked, so I think with the 75% poodle I will have to do a cut before I know it.

I am excited to see what people think on this one.

I used andis clipper and combs. Also barber scissors. Buddy has a soft cottony curly coat and since he has about an acre of woods and swamp to run around in, I have found it easier to keep his coat about an inch long. His tail is completely different-straight, long and wiry. It also has an upward crook in it. I leave it long and it makes a cheerleader pompon which is usually wagging. Her loves to be brushed.and clipped and hops right up on the grooming table sometimes even sleeping there.

CJ I never cut the hair on top of their heads, I let that stay shaggy, however I do cut the hair right above the eyes so that it does not get into their eyes and I cut the hair in the corners of their eyes since that hair tends to grow into the eyes, I use a rounded pair of scissors so I do not have to worry about poking them in the eiyes.  When I cut the sides of their faces I use a pair of rounded scissors and just trim to keep in neat and to keep the hair from curling into their mouths. I also will lift most of this hair up and take a moustache trimmer to shave just above the lips. This helps to keep them from getting stinky faces when they eat. As far as shaving their stomachs. I use my Andis clippers with no attachments. I shave them to the skin, I like to keep the whole stomach and just below the rib cage along with their privates shaved, it keeps them from smelling like pee, they are not the best at aiming when they pee.

Laurie, it's probably asking a lot, but could you describe how you cut/trim the head and face? I just can't seem to get Gracie's so it looks good. I like long and natural, but I also would like to see her eyes. I think she has a similar coat to Puk.

And when you all talk about trimming the belly short--are you using an attachment on the blade? I have an andis with a #10 blade and 3, 6, 10, & 13mm attachments.

Mitzi, I use a #10 blade and I use the comb attachments also, it helps with a little bit of control as far as how short you want to cut.

Mitzi a lawn mower is much better, at least they have some hair left.  LOL
