A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

We were able to pick Gizmo up from the vet this afternoon.  He is not out of the woods yet, but good enough to come home for now.  We have to bring him back on Tuesday for another blood draw.

He's eating K/d (Hills brand) canned and dry food combined.  He loves it!  And he's drinking water out of his bowl.  He did pull his IV out last night, but it's been in since Monday p.m., so he must be feeling better.  No treats or anything else can be injested ... only his food.

When we arrived at the vet's office, he heard our voices (Megan, my granddaughter, was with us and he LOVES her) and immediately let us know where he was and that he wanted OUT!  LOL  He went out to potty before we left and when we got home.

When we arrived home, he went straight to get a drink of water.  I had washed his bowl, so it had to be filled.  We have to keep track of how much water and food he takes in.  So, I used a 2 liter bottle for the water - which filled the bowl.  He drank for a full 4 minutes ... and then drank some more.

He ate a cup of dry food and 1/2 can of soft food combined.  Then he went outside made a yard deposit and peed again.  When he came in he went straight to ouir bed and layed down to go to sleep.

It's good to have him home.  We just need to make sure he's drinking and eating the good food.  His creatinine started at 10, then went to 7.5, then to 3.9.  The goal is to get it to 3.0, so were not out of the woods yet.

I wish it was a fluke, but no ... he does have acute kidney disease.  He is on a special kidney diet and a medication to promote kidney health..  He tires easily, but he's drinking and eating and even playing ... so it looks good.  We'll find out if his kidneys are doing better on Tuesday when we get the blood drawn.  I appreciate all the support and concern you all have shown.  Thank you.

Wow! That's amazing, hope it was all a fluke and he stays healthy!

Woohoo!  Gizmo is back in his home with his loved ones!   So glad to hear he's doing better, more energy and eating and drinking.   So do just have to watch his diet from now on, no medications?

Oh, Jo, I am so glad to hear those numbers! Makes my heart happy! I am really glad that Gizmo is liking the food.  That is HUGE, because I had trouble getting my poodle to eat it.  I still believe in the Tripsy supplement - it has some of the supplements that Alessandra mentioned, as well as some other things.  The difference in our little dog was amazing.  She was almost prancing after she had taken it for a few days, after having been so sick she couldn't function.  It had the same effect on our 2nd dog with kidney issues (yes, we had this happen twice .. . .).  At any rate, I know what they eat can make a big difference, so glad to know he is eating what the vet prescribed! I will continue to pray for the very best results for sweet Gizmo and for you all, also!  Keep us posted, and give him a big kiss on the nose from us!
