A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

Hi, I was wondering when everyone had their puppies shaved for the first time, and what setting they recommend? Patch is 6 1/2 months already! I have taken him to get groomed and trimmed around the face, but have not had him shaved yet. His hair is in a strange stage currently. The area around his front legs and chest is curly and the hair on his back is longer and more straight! I think he must be losing his puppy coat. Does most goldendoodle owners shave their dogs? Thanks for any info!!

I had Gigi jump in the pool and she developed major tangles. She is 50:50. The groomers recommended complete shaving and one of them said it may never grow the same. That concerns me...
Any thoughts ?

Oh sorry, I didnt even really answer your question after all of that. Marley was just under a year when I had him shaved down for the first time. I dont know of any reason why your couldnt do it at your pups age, but you may want to ask a groomer incase.

Hi Melissa,
I get Marley shaved down once a year around summer because his fur is so thick. I have heard people say that their coat protects them from the heat but I have a hard time believing that with Marley as he is so much happier when he gets cut in the summer.
I do have him groomed a few times a year though, where they just kind of maintain his length around and inch and half or so (maybe a bit longer) but I just get him cut really short once a year (minus a time or two when he had to because of matting, which was my fault).
I know some people that don't shave their dogs down and keep them longer all of the time, but they all have straighter coats than Marley and dont require so much brushing. I guess its just all about what your preference is and what cut your dog is comfortable in.
I definitely make sure that Marley always gets a puppy cut though, because his curls are so tight groomers tend to like giving him poodle cuts, which I dont like.
Hope I could be of some help :)
