A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

Vito is extremely well behaved and listens very well with one small exception. He keeps getting into the garbage cans in the bedrooms and bathrooms... he loves tissues and paper towels, etc. We replaced all the cans with ones that have lids. The first day he got one of the lids stuck on his head (I posted a pic of this), and that seemed to be the end of it until this morning when I came downstairs to find the lid carefully removed and placed on the floor and the contents all over the living room. We try to keep the doors closed, but my MIL lives here and she tends to forget or not fully close them so he can push his way right in. Anyone have any special tricks to break him of this one bad habit? I'd greatly appreciate it!

My oldest boy was a huge trash and toilet paper hound. I ended up putting the trash can in a cabinet and the toilet paper lived on the back of the toilet forever. It's only been in the past 3 years that I was able to use my toilet paper rolls again. I think since he is 7 now he finally out grew the need to shred toilet paper. However there is no doubt in my mind if he could get to the trash he still would.

One of our past dogs did the same thing with tissues and paper towels and NEVER got past it and we NEVER found ANYTHING that would/could deter her. I used to get really irritated picking up all the paper on the floors repeatedly. But let me tell you after she had passed away young (7) of Ca I used to long for her paper trail.

No... it's been so long since I needed such a thing I'd forgotten all about it. I'll pick some up and give it a try. Thank you!

Have you tried Bitter Apple? It comes in a spray and you could try spraying your lids or even some of the garbage on top to break the habit. Good luck!
