Gizmo had his first grooming session yesterday. I was so nervous and apprehensive about it. I just wanted it to be a good experience for him. I didn't want him to be scared of the blow dryer, razor, being caged in a room with other dogs, and being handled by "strangers".
Apparently, he had none of my fears! We arrived and was greeted by a big boxer mix (?) that was behind a gate in the grooming room. He was very friendly and Gizmo wanted to play ... BAD! The groomer came out and talked with him and all the while Gizmo explored as far as his leash would take him. He was oblivious. When the groomer squatted down by him, Gizmo wagged all over immediately. The groomer picked him up and Gizmo was just as happy as can be. He didn't even know I left. :(
I picked him up a few hours later and he was happy to see me. He wasn't timid or shy after his "ordeal". He did potty on the floor, but I was told that it was the only time since he'd been there. He's used to going outside right away after being in his condo, so I suppose he thought he should've been taken out immediately then, too.
The groomer said he did great! He wasn't afraid of the high powered blower or even the more mild blower to "style" him. He didn't piddle at all while grooming like some of the other dogs do. I was told the cost would be a little higher if they had to have 2 people help groom him - one to hold, one to groom. That wasn't necessary - it only took one groomer.
He looks beautiful, fluffy and was very happy. We'll do this again!!!!
