A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

I searched past blogs but never really found an answer to discover at what age a goldendoodle could have an all over haircut.  Sophie, approaching 8 months has been to the groomer several times for a face, feet and fanny trim but the groomer said the adult hair needed to be in before she has an all over haircut.  Sophie's hair is getting really long and straight with a little wave.  I brush her often and 5 minutes later she is a fluff ball!  The hair under her neck is changing.  It is whiter with some curl.  I would really love your feedback/recommendations concerning  this grooming issue.  We have owned Labradors all our lives so I definitely need educating on grooming  my little doodle!  Thank you and I am so happy to be a part of this community!

Laurie, thank you for the compliment and advice.  I know I will miss that fluffy hair but she is getting a little hard to brush.  Not too much matting though.  I have NO idea what this fur balls adult coat will look like!

Alyson, if you want it cut now it's fine to do it. There are no rules. If you like it long and there are no Matt's then don't worry about it. If your groomer will joy do it find a new groomer. She is beautiful with her long coat though.

Thank you Catherine and Jasper!  Yes Sophie has been groomed  with the minor trims I mentioned and then her hair is blown out like an Afghan Hound (a little too "fru fru" for me) but no all over trim.  She is a tom boy and loves to dig, run with her Lab sibling, get muddy and eat sticks.  Her coat has debris in it after every trip outdoors.  Think I will go ahead and have her coat cut shorter.  Thanks for the advice!

Gosh, I've never heard of waiting until their adult coat comes in!! Jasper has his first full groom around 7-8 months. He is 17 months now. He would have been covered in mats if I had waited!! I called the groomer as soon as I noticed the puppy hair matting with the newer adult hair. He became harder to brush and keep mat free during that transition, too! Welcome to our doodle family to you and Sophie!!

Thanks Grace.  I am trying to find a good picture to post of Sophie's hair.  I will check out Krystal's blog.

Alyson I found a blog that has lots of comments about grooming about 7 pages worth of comments. Maybe something is there.  It was posted by Krystal Segale on February 27, 2012 titled Grooming.

Alyson, Pemon was 6 months old when he had his first groom.   I guess it might vary by Doodle.  Can you post a recent picture so I can take a look?  Are you going to do the grooming yourself?  If so then you need input from Laurie. (Laurie, Nug & Puk)  She does her own grooming.  There are lots of previous blogs about grooming, but I really don't remember discussing the age.

We're happy you and Sophie have joined our Doodle Family and hope we will hear from you often.
