The swimming pool question led me to wonder how high a fence is needed to keep in a doodle? We are going to fence a good portion of the yard for the dogs. Chessie's center of gravity is low and I don't see him attempting to jump any fences, Eli on the other hand has long legs and I wonder?

My fence is 4 ft. also and Dulcie has never even tried to get over it. (the 13 lb. Jack Russell that I used to have, however, could scale it in 5 seconds!)  I can put a 2 ft. baby gate in the house and she doesn't try to jump it, although I have seen her jump 3 feet in the air easily.  Hope she doesn't discover that she can!

We have a 4 ft fence and Zeke has never even attempted to jump it.He leans over the top to 'talk' to the dog behind us but never jumps. our previous dogs [Gordon Setters) acted like it wasn't even there and were over in a heartbeat.

Mine is on 4 feet high and non of the dogs have ever attempted to jump it they all could easily clear it if they wanted to. I guess it just depends on the dog.

Oh Grace I'm sure you're right. We will need a permit to put the fence up and there are probably somes regs. We are in the boonies.

Beverly I would think you have to check with the city to see what they say.  Now down here we have to pull a permit to put up a fence.  I think our City required 5 feet.  And believe me, Pemon doesn't jump over that.  LOL

4 feet might be too short for some families...I don't know how inclined other doodles might be to try to escape!

We have a 6 foot fence. Harrison has never tried to climb or jump over it, but he does jump up if there is a cat or bird is sitting on it. I think that 4 ft might be a little sort if Eli has long legs.. Good luck

Oh good, I think that should be adequate. Thanks.

Our fence is only 4 feet, and Trixie never even attempts to jump over it...don't know if that's typical or not though???
