Hi All,

As some of you know, my dog Lily passed away a year ago at age 14.5.  A few weeks after her passing, the FDA came out with an alert regarding Grain Free diets causing heart problems.

There is now a report available at: https://efoodalert.wordpress.com/2019/06/27/574-companion-animals-s...

It explains what is known, and what is not.  It lists common dog food brands that were being fed to the dogs whose illnesses were reported to the FDA.

It lists the foods I was feeding my two dogs at the time of Lily's death.

I have switched my remaining dog, Nessy, to a food that is not grain free, but includes rice as the filler, rather than peas of potatoes.  Nessy is thriving.

Please read the article Phillis wrote, and if you are feeding grain free, please switch dog foods.  They may not have proven the cause yet, but the evidence is strong.

All I know is that Lily died of heart failure after the food I was feeding was fundamentally reformulated without my noticing (adding peas as a second ingredient, more fat, no potatoes).  She declined over a period of months while I grabbed at straws, trying other manufacturer's grain free foods, all of which are now on the list.

The first warnings came from the FDA about 3 weeks after she died.

So, yes I blame the food.

This is a controversial issue.

The study is funded by the big dog food brands.

PS, while no diagnosis was done for Lily's sudden decline, her symptoms were consistent with heart failure.
