Gizmo has decided that he likes to eat with his bowl on the footstool in the living room.  AND, he usually won't eat unless I put it in his Kong first, or hide his Glucosamine tablets in it.  Quirky!!!

We started feeding him in the living room when he broke his leg about a year and a half ago.  He decided that he likes to eat by us .... that's not a problem.  I'm not sure how or why we put his bowl on the footstool, but he really likes it.

Does anyone else have a Doodle (or other large dog) that likes his bowl raised?  Can you recommend a good raised bowl holder?

Just curious.  Thanks.

Pemon has resolved the problem himself.  He lies down to eat.    LOL

Jo, all 3 of mine have raised feeders. You can find them at any pet store. I saw a great idea with flower pots. Find a flower pot the right height and right size in diameter for a food bowel. You can paint them or decorate anyway you want.

That's toooo funny!  They must've known their own scent on the bowls.  Sometimes it's fun to change things up for them.  :)

just another thought that brought a smile to me...  while they are out for morning 'chores'  I start my coffee and fill their bowls.   This week i mistakenly switched bowls, sitting them back in the same place.  Bowls are same size, same color, same food..  They knew and immediately switched places..   LOL

I did buy a raised bowl for Brandi.   Brandi eats really quickly, and I read somewhere that the raised bowl would help the digestion.   The many treats we throw her way so that we can eat - I bet does not help her digestion.   And she soooo owns us!!!

We used to leave Gizmo's food out all day and he would eat "whenever".  But now Mojo (our son's little dog) is here (Chad & Mojo moved in for a short time) so we can't leave it down.  Mojo ate some of Gizmo's food the other day and NONE of it stayed down. YUK!  Gizmo likes to eat Mojo's food, too, but Mojo finishes his right away.  Gizmo is learning to eat when the dish is down now.  He still has to have the bowl on the footstool, though.

Harrison eats and drinks from raised bowls which is funny cause he will lay like a camel to drink from the pool... I know the vet told us that for digestion it is better to feed large dogs in a raised bowl..

Harrison is a grazier. We have tried to feed him on a 2x a day schedule and he will not finish when fed. We have pulled the dish and made him wait till the next feeding and he will sit by his bowl until we put it back down.. So he is a grazier and we have come to accept it...

I know Lois... He has me well trained. That's why I honestly believe that they own us, not the other way around! LOL! Loving paws!

lol  I think your both funny.   I place bowls on the floor, and pour myself a cup of coffee then go into the library.   I figured they will clean up the bowls if they are hungry..

Well Jo, I feel in good company on this site, as always. Pedro has now this entrenched habit of not starting to eat his dinner unless "Mommy" puts kibble in his Kong first and not only once but a few times, especially if we're trying to watch TV. He barks and pretty much demands that I do it. He doesn't go to his Daddy, only to me, and of course Glen says it's my fault because I have done it before, so I do it and the story never ends.

A couple of months ago, I decided to purchase a food riser because a few times that I was being coerced into putting kibble in his Kong, I just moved his dish to our coffee table and he started eating there (such good manners, eh?) so I observed him a few times going to his dish and it seemed to me that because of his height it would just be comfortable to elevate his dishes (water and food). The food riser I bought is probably 6-8 inches above the floor and he seems to like it (when he's not barking at me about the Kong thing), it's actually a decorative looking riser that I got at Home Sense (Home Goods in the US), don't remember the particular brand.

The other funny thing about his dinner eating habits is that when we actually sit down at our kitchen table to eat dinner (vs. eating in front of the TV) he starts eating (his food "station" is right next to the kitchen counter) so he likes to "eat with us" or accompanied. I think that is the most distinguishable trait of our Doodles, they like to be in the company of their humans. And that's why we love them soooo much.

Hugs and loving paws to you and Gizzy!
