A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

So all the talk about the Jolly Egg (which I had never heard of before!) has made me wonder... what other toys have doodle lovers found to be enjoyed AND sturdy for their dogs? Jasper loves 'unstuffed' animals...the kind that have no stuffing in the body, but stuffing and a squeaker in the head! He will play with these for hours. He has a monkey, an elephant, & a bear. (I found them at Target, reasonably priced too!). Tennis balls get a lot of use in our house, as well as rope toys and toys that hide an empty water bottle inside. Jasper chews through many toys very quickly, so I am always on the lookout for new sturdy toys! Would love to hear what everyone else has found...

Oh, great, i give advice that gave Jasper diarrhea!! Ain't that the 5hits!??  I am so sorry.  Catherine, out girls didn't get the poops but I also don't remember them digging out marrow - they only chewed and scuffed the outside. Good grief, i feel terrible.

Will you try again eventually - maybe for a shorter time period?

Wow...good to know Lois! Jasper got diarrhea all day yesterday from the deer antlers we are staying away from anything with marrow. Which is too bad, because he really it!

I looked at the ball I was talking about .... it's a Kong, but a different type of rubber than the kongs you put treats into - the ball bounces - really well!  Just so ya know ....... :)

Not a toy, but Market Street cuts 'cross cut' soup bones for me.  I pick up a couple every couple of weeks.. Cheap, cheap... a couple of them run me under a dollar.    They usually have some the marrow inside.  Izzi and Charlie spend hours working on them and I like them because they keep tartar off teeth.

We don't know about "sturdy" toys at our house!  LOL  Gizmo tears everything up.  I did buy a small bouncy ball that he LOVES and hasn't destroyed.  I got it at Pet Supplies Plus for about $8.00 on a whim.  It has a hole in the middle that goes all the way through and lots of little bumps on the outside.  When you throw it, it bounces sporadically because of the bumps.  You can put treats in the hold, but I never have.  Gizmo plays with this by himself a lot.  He puts his big ol' puppy paw on it and makes it jump and then chases it.  It's sort of soft, but he can chew it and it hasn't come apart.  It also has a squeaker inside which is totally annoying, but that's the part he loves the most.  He carries the ball around, chomping on it, making it squeak.  Best $8 I ever spent!

Well Andrea, I picked up a deer antler and Jasper is LOVING it! I also picked up a Wubbas that I will save for another day. Thanks so much for the suggestions! We also have our first real snow of the winter (only 2 inches) and Jasper has had a blast running around in it. He is still a bit wary of the snow shovel, however! LOL

Catherine, the antlers are totally non-offensive. I don't see pieces coming off them although they do look worn away.  I've never noticed a scent but when we first bought them I was so sure that there must have been some gamy smell that the dogs were attracted to.  How could there not be?  We just never smelled it.  I am seriously off to the pet store to replenish. I've decided that both the antlers and the nylas would be much nicer to be new.  Time to refresh. Have a good day.  Thanks for posting this blog.

Andrea...we love toys too! I would be embarrassed to actually count how many. :) Thanks for the really helps to see them! I have wondered about the wubbas and dura chews...great to know your dogs like them so much! Jasper can destroy a toy incredibly fast, so I'm always on the lookout for ones that will last a bit. Deer antlers I haven't...dumb they smell or leave a mess? Jasper likes most Kong toys, too. He still loves the small puppy toys...but he looks a little silly carrying them in his mouth. He will roll on his back with them in his mouth too. LOVE the idea of the lingerie bags! Brilliant idea!! Thanks so much, Andrea!

Oh, i love this topic Catherine.  We love toys!  One of my favorite purchases has been a Nyla Bone product called Dura Chew they are textured and Chicken Flavor.  We have two pieces of it. One is shaped like a big plastic tire with all these little knobby things on them.  We've had them for nearly two years and often the girls will chose these to chew on.  I was skeptical at first. Plastic??  Well, it seems to work and they like to work at it.  It's damaged with chew marks but they really don't get to break any of the pieces off.  Next is deer antlers.  They were expensive - i think around $23 a piece, BUT they have been around for more than two years and again, they get chosen fairly often.  They may a great chew item and they were worth every single penny. Oh, and then their is KONG product.  The Wubbas that are covered with a bit of short fir.  They look like octopuses (?? Octopi)They are great tug toys.  Of course they have various stuffies and no-stuffies in various stages of unstuffedness.  They love digging the guts out of these critters and they still go back and haul out their skins.  We keep them all.  I have a lingerie bag that i keep right at the toy box and when these skins are stinky or crunchy from dried spit, i load them into the bag and throw them in the washing machine with, say the dog bath towels.  (I don't own one piece of lingerie by the way). The last item which is a winner at our house but might make others nervous is mice.  Yep, little stuffed mice. Not ones with real fur or hard eyes or string.  Just plain old mice.  Originally they were for the cat, but the girls have taken them over.  They chew them like gum.  They don't eat them or choke on them.  They destuff and just have the skins mostly. They just put them in their mouth and chew them.  Jorja throws her head up and tosses  up in the air.  Gracie puts them on our laps and wants us to throw them. They get all wet and blecky, and we gross out but the dogs simply love them. Sometimes i can barely tell they have one.  I might spy a tail hanging out of the side of their mouth.  We have a stylish toy box and a smaller matching piece that holds grooming tools.  These make up part of our weird decor.  Here are some pictures.  Now i feel like heading off to the pet store. Hope you enjoy your toy shopping.

Yes Catherine, I agree with you about the old undies. Another thing I gave Indie was a squeaky ball tied up in one of my husbands sports socks (stronger than suit socks), she thought this was great fun to fling around & it deterred her from chewing the ball up!
