A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

Hi Everyone! Sorry I haven't been around, I've been looking after my son-in-law after he had major leg reconstruction surgery... it's been a wild ride let me tell you... I have a question for you all... Daisy and Jax both seem to have "eye discharge". We first thought it was in infection and they both got treated with drops. Now they both have "goop" in their eyes when they wake up...does anyone else have this issue? Is it normal? My vet assistant said "maybe that's just have goopy eyes"... I need your advice friends! Thanks so much!

I'm not really sure, but I think it's environmental .... something in the air, the leaves, the grass, etc ...  You know how Doodles sniff out EVERYTHING!

Since this seems to be a common thing amongst Doodles... those with allergies...what are they allergic too? Is it just environmental things? or food?

I know I'm a little late in reading the blogs, but I can relate to this one.  Gizmo ALWAYS has goop in his eyes.  Like others, Doc (our vet) said it's allergies.  I'm constantly cleaning out his "eye boogers".  He just looks at me and lets me clean them out ... I do it so often.  He hasn't had any other problems with it or because of it.

As long as it is not an excessive amount some is normal, we call it eye candy around here. If there is a lot of it or if they are blinking a lot or seem to be sensitive to light, then you know there is a problem.

Mark always cleans out Pemon's eyes.  Be careful Lynn I understand those Allergy test can be pretty expensive.

I agree with the comments below. Our vet also told us having goopy eyes doesn't necessarily mean infection. Asha has it in the mornings, when it is dry out and she's been running in the grass or weeds at the park every day. Since the snowfall it's gone away altogether. Our vet says unless it's really bright green goop and she's irritated by it, or itching it, it's nothing to worry about.
