A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

We're just wondering if the brilliant, beautiful and enticing Dood's are known for being an alarm, barking and scaring the intruder when it's necessary??  We would love to get twin baby boys for our 62ft sailboat and live aboard with us while traveling extensively.  We would want to think that they would protect us from possible intruders coming onto our boat.  Please advise if you have any experience with Dood's on boats or if you have seen your Dood react to possible trouble from a stranger in the past.  Thanks,  JP and Barbara

I have a 1 year old Goldendoodle and he too barks every time someone walks by my house. I love him though, lol.

Miss Murphy is not much of a barker. Only time she ever seems to bark is if it is still dark out (very early a.m.) when she occasionally has to go out to do "her stuff" then she barks at movements, headlights she can see between houses behind us, deer sometime in yard behind us (even though very residential area), etc.  She kind of goes nuts when company comes...wants to run down the stairs to greet them, but doesn't bark (definitely needs work on  not going crazy when company arrives, even though she calms down in short order).  She certainly would not protect us from intruders.  I'm sure she would welcome them with wagging tail and sloppy dog kisses.

My concern is that there are a lots of stray cats and kittens in the neighborhood and they torment Pemon.  He has had them cornered a few times, but Mark has caught him in time.    I don't think he has been bothered too much with squirrels - but our other dog  Fletch he was always chasing the squirrels and they use to sit on the wires over head and torment him, but he never caught one.  He has jumped 7 feet in air and pulled down a pssossium (how do you like that spelling Bruce?) off the fence and also saved Mark one night by pulling  a rat off our awning and slamming it against our fence.  I mention Fletch quite a bit because we still miss him dearly.  We had to  put him down with liver cancer last April - that is why we got Pemon to try to help us forget.  Fletch was a mix terrior - we figured the terrior part was Wheaton.  He was a stray my husband found.  Enough on Fletch.  Pemon, our Goldendoodle has made us very happy and keeps us laughing.

Ginger keeps us safe from squirlls (awww...how DO you spell that ?).  Yesterday, she chased a black one that lives around here.  Caught it just as it made it to the tree.  Ginger took one quick bite, but the squirell (awww...there I go again !! is that right ?) got in a lick and got away.  Ginger came back with a bloody nose.

It does seem that once they hit the year mark they act different. Nug still hardly ever barks but Puk barks if a bird lands in the yard, God forbid if any wildlife tries to move in.
