My doodle Phoenix started out with a black nose. However, it has slowly turned a dark brown, still with some black. A elderly dog expert told me the change in  color is from drinking from metal bowls and to stop this I should use ceramic bowls.

Has anyone heard this theory or is it simply genetics. have your dogs noses lost their black?

Gracie wears a lifejacket because she tends to swim upright...however, she loves it and will fly in off the end of a dock.  She is way more confident though with the life jacket.  We'll see how Jorja Brown does this summer.  I am anxious to see.  Patrick I think that Phoenix is like the hippy of all doods.  He's cool!

My guys Love the water and will swim, but I think they prefer to just wade in. They both like to lay down in the water and dunk their heads underneath.

I have taken them out swimming and they both swim like little otters but it seems to make them a bit nervous when they can't touch bottom.

Do your doodles like water and swimming?

Phoenix likes the beach and will wade in up to his chest but won't go beyond that. I met someone a couple of years ago who said their doodle didn't start swimming until he was 5 years old. Phoenix is now 5 so perhaps he'll hit the ware this summer.

Laurie, Nug & Pug: Thanks for your input and the complement to Phoenix. I think any change in Phoenix's nose color is a just a natural change in pigment.

With regard to mud, it sounds like it's a natural attraction to these crazy doodles.  All the best!

Grace, yes when the word mud is spoken it brings a feeling of dread.

Patrick I have never heard that metal bowls could change the pigment of their noses.

The only thing I have ever heard was that white or light colored dogs could get saliva staining from certain types of metal or plastic and you should switch to ceramic if this happens.

Phoenix is a handsome dood with a black or a brown nose.

Andrea is will always be me typing - my husband Mark refuses to go near a computer.  Doesn't know what he is missing.   Every once in a while I call him over to look at all the adorable Doodle pictures and I do keep him a breast as to what is going on in the Doodle society.

Grace, (hmmm, I am assuming that it is Grace typing??)...glad you Floridians have access to good junk candy...never thought you were aliens. LOL

Patrick, you're nearly our neighbour.  We're only 4.5 hours away...near Sudbury.  Phoenix is a great looking dood!

On the subject of mud:  If there is some, Gracie will find it, for sure.  She loves mud holes and she hates overheating.

Truthfully it's getting too hot too fast.  This should stay with us until October.  We are having a drought.  They predicted severe storms first for the weekend and then Monday & Tuesday.  We are still waiting.  Pemon is good with the heat, but we really do not subject him much to it, they say it's not good for Doodles.

Our other dog (terrier mix - looked like Benji) we had to put down last April.  When he was a puppy he use to dig his way under our fence to other peoples yards to get free.  He also would dig a big hole and only his head would be sticking out.  This is why we had to get a Doodle because our other dog was so unique.  Had to have one just as smart with a great personality and Pemon has not let us down.

Mark & Grace: That's a great mud story! How does Pemon like the heat? Phoenix seems to prefer cooler weather and of course we get lots of that here. Would rather be in Florida. Sometime when it's hot Phoenix will go to the back of the yard and dig a hole and sit in it. Only his head appears above ground. Doodles are characters.

Patrick:  Anyway, love the color.  Yes Doodles love the mud.  I don't think you are alone on that one. My husband has prepared part of our yard with lots of black soil to plant something.  This was a year ago. So far nothing has been planted, but when we first got Pemon at 10 weeks old he was drawn to that spot, expecially when it rained.  Covered with mud.  So my husband fenced it off and guess what - he still hasn't planted anything.  Remind you of anything Laurie, Nug & Puk?

Andrea:  Yes Floridians have pixie sticks or lik-a-maid.  We are not aliens!!!! LOL
