A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

One of our news stations had a thing on Dogs and cancer which we have been discussing here from time to time.  They say that a lot of Vets are reporting an increase of Dogs they are seeing with cancer.  No specific breed.  From what I can remember  they mentioned the following causes:

Our smoke.  Not just the 2nd hand smoke, but nicotine sticks to their fur and they lick it off.

Paint - when you're painting your house

Yard spray.  They mentioned a man who had a dog and it died of cancer.  He then got another  and it too

died of cancer.  They lived on a golf course and the man would let his dog run on the golf course.  Well it was all the sprays they use to keep their lawns nice.

Household Cleansers.

Check for lumps.

We're taking Pemon to the Vet on Tuesday for his annual an I'm reading up on vaccinations because they are mentioning that some vaccinations can cause cancer too.  They didn't say this on TV, but I've read that most booster shots that are giving annually only need to be giving every 3 years.  I'm going to have Mark check with the Vet and see what she says.

Hope this blog has been helpful.  Many of you might already know this stuff, but some of it I didn't. And I want our Doodles to be healthy.

Lois:  Rabies are every 3 years in Florida.  But I am going to check with the Vet on the others.

Alessandra:  I know what you're saying.  I hate thinking about it also.  When one of our beloved Doodles gets sick Mark will not let me talk about it anymore.  I'm a little nervous about Pemon going to the Vet on Tuesday.

Oh they showed that clip on the news again tonight and another thing is the Bathroom sprays etc.  They can ingest them.

We love you Grace, thank you for this. I know I sometimes avoid thinking about it or researching it, but I have gone through our Angel Renata getting cancer and passing away from it and I know I don't want my Pedro to go through the same.

Thanks for the heads up, Grace.  Our last dog before Gizmo was a Lab/Golden mix.  He got a lot of fatty tumors that were benign and very common.  He had several very large ones removed.  When we took him to the vet for the last one to be looked at, Doc said he was full of cancer - but not necessarily in the fatty tumor.
