Hey all. I am thinking about changing Monty's puppy food and I was wondering what kind of food you all feed your doodles, and why? Thanks!

We've always fed Pedro the puppy, then adolescent, then adult, then dental and now prescription mobility formulas of Royal Canin Medical. We are very happy with his health in general, his coat and his digestive system. The mobility formula is supposed to be a good step to deal with potential issues with his hips. We buy it from our vet clinic and it is a little pricier than regular brands, but we won't change it because his health check ups have always been really good.

Pedro gets 1 1/2 cups twice a day, so three in total but he is a grazer, he used to eat it all as soon as we put it in the dish when he was a puppy, but with time, he just became a grazer and sometimes won't even touch it until it's almost bedtime or unless I sprinkle cheese on it. But that's only because he has trained me to do so and I've been trained well... LOL

We have fed Winston Blue Buffalo since we got him. He loves it and he hasn't had any issues. We recently switched from Lamb to Chicken and I think he just enjoys the new flavor because he gobbles it right up.

You won't be sorry with Pro Plan.  We have always used that.  Our vet told us to get it for Gizmo when we first got him.  It has all the nutrients he needed for a growing puppy.  And, it was easy to switch over to adult food.

Yep, it is best to go slow. Our vet told us to try 1/4 new food mixed with 3/4 current food for a 3-4 days. Then go 1/2 and 1/2 for a few more days. Then 3/4 new food and 1/4 old food for a few more days. Watch for any signs of stomach upset or loose stools. That should do it!! Some dogs have no trouble at all switching food, but many dogs will if you don't go slow. Good luck!!

Maybe I'll try that Purina Pro Plan.  So I should gradually change him over, huh?  We are giving him Pedigree complete.

Good point about gradually introducing the new food into his diet, Jeff.

I like Orijen, Teddy's coat shines and is very soft, no gas and stool is hard. He has plenty of energy and the vet loves the way he looks and has asked about his food. Might be a bit pricey but compare how much less you may be feeding Monty because of the cal count and the price isn't so bad. When you change foods try to mix in over a one to two week period so he can adjust to the new food and doesn't have digestive issues.

Our vet put Jasper on Iams low-residue puppy food a couple of months ago and it has been the best thing for him! He would have loose stools once or twice a week...not bad, but persistent. And he pooped several times a day. On this food, no loose stools in the last 3 months and he poops once a day like clockwork. It's been great and I think he feels better as well. The vet said he may not need a low-residue food once he is one year old, so we'll see. The puppy version of this foodI have to get from my vet, but the adult dog food you can get other places. It's a little pricey, but worth every penny!

Seems like Purina pro plan large breed puppy is a common choice. Monty is currently on Simply Nourished and has extremely loose stools and some diarrhea here and there. We have tried other things but are pretty sure it is his food. Thank you for all of your help!

We also give Gizmo Purina Hi Pro Plan Large Breed, but Adult not Puppy, food.  Our vet suggested it and we had always given our previous dogs Purina Pro Plan.  He eats about 2 Cups 2X a day, too.  We tried the shredded variety, but he didn't really like it.
