As many of you know, Laurie has posted receipes on her facebook page. I've used a couple and found them very good. I especially liked the Halloween sugar cookie fingers. I really wanted to try them for some friends coming over for a party. They didn't turn out great and I sought out Laurie on facebook. She gave some hints that I incorporated in my last few batches.
So, here's my tribute to Laurie, Puk, Nug and Magoo...Thanks a BUNCH...the "finger food" was a great hit at the party. I did some alterations, so here's the story:
First, I used Pillsbury sugar cookie dough, found in the cold butter section of my grocery store. At first, I scouped out and rolled up about a tea-spoon full of dough. WAY, WAY too much. The cookies flattened and didn't look much like fingers. I reduced the amount of dough by about 80%...smaller is better.
Next, I put the almond sliver for the finger nail in BEFORE cooking...turned out ok. I put slices for the knuckles and top'd with cinnimon rather than cocoa, as Laurie's receipe suggested. (later, Laurie told me that putting toothpicks in before baking made better indentations...) Next, I dipped the end in red sugar sprinkles for blood, where the finger was cut off.
I cooked for about 5-6 minutes, and as the dough spread out and flattened, I took them out of the oven and kinda "scrunched" them up to make them rounder. For a few, after scrunching, I put them in an oven with "broil" setting....it cooked the top without baking the rest....worked good some times, other times not so good.
Overall, they weren't as good or nice as Laurie's, but they looked more like schriveled up, dried, dead fingers. And, as I said, they were a hit at the party.
I'm not a fan of sugar cookies, so next time, I think I'll use just plain ole butter cookie dough.
