A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to see if any of you give your doodles Coconut Oil for skin itching? My Daisy Mae is 14weeks and a little over 10lbs. I heard that 1/4 tsp, 2xs a day will help with skin, coat, itching and her digestive system. Has anyone tried this? She itches, and kind of gnaws at her paws a bit. Just wondering if it would help....

(and I do plan on asking my vet next week at our appointment...)

Thanks, Daisy and Dawn

I add coconut oil every morning, but I agree with all who are mentioning allergies. I first switched to Fromm grain free kibble; Game Bird which worked for my one pup, but when our second pup joined us he started itching, so I then switched to grain free Salmon a la Veg. Now both are happily itch-free. BTW - I posted the Fromm canned food recall, but still support them :)

Boy I'm having issues with my phone and posting! Yeast issues are way more common than you know...not sure why it gets overlooked so much. Good luck...pretty puppy you have!!!

Ooops, wasn't done!!! Zymox Otic HC enzymatic solution, awesome for ear infection & as a preventative...use as directed for preventative, I use once every 2 stuff ever. Doing all of this in regards to our dogs' feedings, shampoo & ear care, has absolutely stopped their itching...worked for my daughter's dogs & friends dogs far the easiest/least expensive route to go...Give it a month or 2 & if no improvement, try another allergy or environmental allergens. Although, malaseb shampoo works fast if directions are sure to work shampoo into pawpads & around butt area. I would not use honey, as yeast also feeds on that, ugh. Earthborn Holistic Grain Free Great Plains Feast or Meadow Feast is the kibble we get at, no tax/shipping...can also get the malaseb miconazole shampoo & Zymox at chewy too...Dinovite nutritional supplement & fish oil we get on the Dinovite site.

What I meant to say was: don't use hot water to melt the coconut oil (use warm) cuz when you add the Dinovite Nutritional supplement, the hot water will kill the nutrients in that supplement.

Ugh, been down allergy to food & any other allergy road, nothing helped. only thing that helped: Dinovite nutritional supplement, Dinovite super omega fish oil, & coconut oil, all mixed in to kibble, at both feedings. Put coconut oil in bowl, add 1/3 cup warm water to melt, add fish oil, add kibble & stir, than add Dinovite supplement & mix it up & your done...don't add hot water to coconut oil, it will kill the nutrients in the supplement. Dogs are carnivores, most don't process carbs well, so this causes yeast overgrowth...yeast causes itching, including paw licking, bottem itch, ear itch & infection. The kibble I use is low carb. Also malaseb miconazole dog shampoo, used once every couple months will keep skin yeast in check. Do not use any shampoo with oatmeal, yeast feeds on between malaseb miconazole baths, I only rinse Piper off with plain water.

we have used coconut oil for the last year. both boys have great coats, no itching, low tarter teeth and fresher breath. they love coconut oil and when we run out and I forget to buy it, meal time is not the same.  Harrison is 100b and gets 3 TLBS and Brodie is 74lbs and get 2 TBLS daily.  we use un refined coconut oil melted and poured over their food. We also add Missing Link (based on the package directions). good luck
