Does anyone have experience with adding coconut oil to your doodles diet? My husband and I use coconut oil a lot and I was thinking that the health benefits for humans would be great for dogs. I know that Harrison and Brodie, love to lick it off my fingers when they can.

I have mixed it with Ruffie's food since I brought him home from the animal shelter. I mix about half teaspoon with the Orijen puppy food three times a day. Beautiful coat so far, and no more dry skin patches like he had when I brought him home.
I used it for my Yorkie and it was good internally and helped keep tangles down externally. Don't know about rubbing it into the doodles fur ... he would probably just try to lick it off.

Okay we tried it.. I did 1/2 tablespoon for Brodie (72lbs) and a full tbls for Harrison (92lbs). I mixed it in their morning food and had to jump back. They gobbled it down so fast, licking their chops the whole time. We will see if we get any side effects.

I know the other Laurie (Nug and Puk's Mommy) gives it to her boys, not sure about the formula but what Laurie said sounds good to me... I bought it but haven't tried it with Pedro... I look forward to more responses about the health benefits for our Doodles...

I have heard of 2 formulas, one is 1/4 Tbs. per 10 lbs. of body weight and the other is 1/4 tsp. per 10 lbs. of body weight.  I use the second with my Doodles.  So Delilah (38 lbs.) gets 1 teaspoon and Jackson who weighs 71 lbs. gets 1 3/4 tsp.  morning and night.  I have noticed Jackson scratching less.  I have been doing it for about 3 weeks now.  I went with the second formula because the first seemed a lot to me, and I didn't want it to adversely effect their digestive system!  Hope this helps some....Happy Thanksgiving.
