A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

Luke is a 2nd Generation goldendoodle. His hair is a mix of poodle ( his legs, chest and head), and golden retriever. I would like an advice of which could be a good clipper for his type of hair. They're really expensive, and I don't want to spend money only "trying" a new one. I want to learn how to grooming him by  myself. Thank you in advance for the recommendations.

I have an Oster Turbo A5 which I've had for about 6 years without any problems.   (wow, price has gone up - I paid about $90)  It has 2 speeds but I've only used the slower one.  It comes with a #10 blade and the only I've ever used I bought a package of mixed comb sizes so I can experiment.  I think that's a good way to go so you can experiment.  Now I use just 3 different sizes depending on how long I want to leave his coat.  I let it go shaggier in the winter!

I got a folding grooming arm

and set it up on a plastic folding table from Walmart with a non-slip bath mat on top.  I use the strap around his hips instead of at the neck because Picco wants to sit!  There are arms that extend across so you can hook up both ends if you need to.

I love doing my own grooming!  I send Picco out every spring to a professional to get a sanitary cut because I'm scared I'm going to nick him in a sensitive area!  There are all kinds of youtube videos out there but doodle coats vary so much you may have to experiment!  Have fun!
