Hi Doodle friends

Looking for your opinions. I think Spencer has finally done it.  Super counter surfer and snitch extraordinaire must have swallowed something that doesn't go through easily. Since this morning, he has been trying to poop with no results. He isn't particularly distressed, laid on the floor all through dinner quite peacefully. Surfed before dinner as always to see what was on the counter. Only unusual behaviour was barking when I came home from work to let me know he wanted out of his crate. He is usually very patient and I was only gone a couple of hours, which is less than he is frequently left. But each time he goes outside since this morning, he makes several unproductive stops.

My gut says to wait a while and see if he goes. Vets are all closed now and only emergency vet services left open. What do you think?

Kathy:  I just saw your blog today.  How is spencer doing?  Is he totally back to normal?  We sure hope so.  Oh Pedro you are something else, but I'm glad that Daddy's rubber ear plug came out O.K. I just had to laugh.  Kathy, Mark would probably wait a couple of days and then take Pemon to the Vet.

But it sounds like everything is O.K. now.

awww, poor Spencer.   Note ...if Spencer continues to have non-events, decides to eat, yet vomits-  That is a sure sign of a blockage - as it cannot make it through to the "other end". I state this from experience as my Golden decided to eat a dish towel once, and then a size 13 men's wool sock.  Spencer will also feel distressed if you gently press from his ribs toward his hips to feel for bloating.  Good Luck!

Oh Cousin Spencer, Mommy and I just read this and hope you're doing okay.

When we were on our vacashun the other week, I ate one of Daddy's rubber ear plugs... it took a little over a day, but I gave it back... well, Daddy didn't really want it back... but it was there... sometimes I don't understand my humans.

Thanks everybody. I waited last night to see how it would go for a while. He jumped up on the couch and went to sleep. Unfortunately so did I. He went out before bed and the problem seemed gone. My husband didn't go outside with him to check. Both boys sleep in our room and he slept soundly all night. This morning we found sort of a sloppy pile that looked like last night. Haven't seen any more poops from him today, but he is normal Spencer again. So who knows what it was. Life is a virtual smorgasbord for this dog. I worry someday it will cause him trouble. For today, I think he is ok,

My husband always rolls his eyes when I ask him if everyone pooped on their walk. But unlike a lot of humans, dogs are pretty regular. If you don't get any results today I think at least a vet call is warranted. Good luck Spencer.

Are you sure he is not constipated? When was the last time he went? Harrison and Brodie get constipated when we travel and will not go for a day or two. They will try and nothing.. Is he drinking water? Is he panting a lot? I would watch him tonight and if he acts in distress then I would take him to the emergency clinic.

Hope he is back to himself soon..

Sounds fairly serious.  For your piece of mind, it might be worth going to the emergency Vet for an x-ray.

They can't tell us what's wrong, or what they ate, and sometimes it is really serious,  but you never know.  Err on the side of caution, that's my motto.

Best wishes!
