So we will be gone for two days here soon to go to a funeral, so Bo and Herbie will be staying with our neighbor.  Any tips on making the seperation easier for Bo?  I have never been away from him for more than a couple hours, and so he is with me pretty much constantly.  He gets sad and cries if I even go downstairs without him so I woory about his seperation anxiety while I am gone.  He does already know our neighbors so that helps, but any other tips to make his first time away from mom would be great, thanks.

Well the good and the bad...Bo didn't have to go to the puppy sitter after all because the kids got sick, so no seperation anxiety for either of 6s this time around.

Thank you all.  I am sure the seperation anxiety will be about equal, I hate leaving my babies.  Herbie does okay about anywhere as long as he has a lap to sit on, but Bo is definately a big mommas boy.

I was just going to suggest the same thing as Beverly.  I'm really wondering who will be suffering from separation anxiety - you or Bo.  LOL  We hate leaving Pemon for even a few hours.  Sincere sympathy.

Advice below is great.  You just never know how they will react. I've had dogs that seemed to forget that I wasn't around and settled in fine. But Picco is so different, he shuts down and sulks. Talk about guilt!

Beverly's shirt and toy suggestion is great - you can always wear a T-shirt for a little while and use that if you don't want to lose a good shirt!  I also used a ticking clock (sounds like a heartbeat) in Dulcie's bed when she was very small and I was crate training her.  Safe travels and sorry it has to be for a sad occasion.

Pack some of his familiar toys, and a shirt with your smell on it (one you don't mind losing.) It's always hard but he'll do fine. Sorry for your loss.
