She was constantly licking and biting her bottom .. it was discolored but I kind of thought that was normal cause it was the bottom ... her chin was discolored too so I didn't know ....but the vet said it was not normal for her bottom and was like an infection and gave her meds ... honestly the meds did nothing ... but I thought " it must be the food " I know that if the food has something in it or is missing something it can cause problems for the dog ... went back to the expensive  food that I can only get online ...and it got 90% better ... there is still a small area that is black and at times she is licking and itching it .. not sure what to do now ... Does anyone know what this might be ? Has anyone experienced it ?

Can't help you on this one Marie.  I was going to suggest the anal glands being cleaned just like Lois said.

yes,  a Vet should as he/she will make sure they are clear...    Charlie need to go in twice as a puppy specifically for that condition..  (I was trying with different foods at the time).   Also one of the main reasons I take both to this particular groomer which is in my Vet office is that she makes sure the glands are clear.

No regular check does not include an auto check   seems you have to point out the systems..

Lois who does the glands ? Isn't the Vet supposed to do it ... I thought he would have done it when I brought her in ... however, when I changed her food it made a drastic change for the better ... it went from a large area to just a circle ...much smaller

ah   saw this blog after other blog on poop...    check food... also she may need  glands 'expressed'

If this vet is not concerned with constant licking and biting...  SEE ANOTHER VET.
