A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers

This morning we borrowed a large kennel from the Well Mannered Dog Center.  When I called and told the owner what had happened, she was so upset.  She said anything she can do to help, just let her know.  So, we asked about a kennel and she was glad to let us use it.  Since his "condo" is hard flooring that might be slippery, we thought the kennel in the living room would be best for him for a few days.

We picked Gizmo up around 3pm today.  The first thing we heard from the girl who took care of him was "your dog is a wimp" - with a smile on her face.  She thought it was pretty funny.  She said she fed him this morning and put his bowl up a little so he wouldn't knock it over in the kennel.  She walked out and heard this sound; wasn't sure what it was - not really a whine, but almost.  She came back and pushed his food toward him a little.  He grabbed the bowl with his paw, pulled it toward him more and chowed down.  Too funny!  He knows how to get sympathy!

Whe they brought him out to us, he walked (hobbled) on his three good legs to us.  He was very happy to see us, but not wild.  Then we went outside and pottied; he must've been saving it all day!  LOL  He was very ready to go home.  They gave us a cone for "just in case".  He hadn't been bothering the leg, but who knows what he will do later.

We lifted him intot he back of the SUV but couldn't get him to lay down.  He really has to think about it.  Finally, the girl who had been taking care of him this morning came out and got him to lay down.  We stopped and got a can of dog food to help administer his meds and then came home.  He walked around the yard for a couple seconds, then came in the house.

Once in he let me hug him while I sat on the footstool.  He just LEANED into me.  So glad to be home.  Then he got his favorite treat - a Popsicle!!! Is he just a little spoiled????? NO - he is a LOT spoiled!  LOL  He has walked a little, but we had him lay back down.  I took a few photos and will post them.  He is resting now.

Thanks.  All is well and we are doing fine.  Gizmo is healing and is a wonderful "little" (if 60# is little) guy!

Jo, I missed a lot of the blogs over the past couple of weeks, so trying to catch up. I have tears in my eyes as I read your updates and my heart goes out to you. I can only imagine how much of an emotional roller coaster this has been. But Gizmo (or Gizzy, as my Doodle Twin calls him) is in very loving hands and is on his way to recovering. Just know that you have been in all of our prayers. Loving paws! ~Mitzi, Sunny Ray and Justan

Update:  Gizmo and I took a walk today!  He has been pestering me to play outside with him, but when I go outside and throw the ball, he just looks at it.  So, I come inside.  He follows me to the door, but won't come in ... he just gives me that forlorn Doodle sad, eyed stare.  OOOOHHHHH!  He wants to go for a walk!  So, we did.  We walked up the sidewalk (about 4 houses), crossed the street and walked back all the way down to the end, crossed the street and came back home.  He only stopped once to rest.  He was gently pushing off with his toes on his broken leg and I noticed his knee was moving very slightly when he walked.  It was good for him.  He came home, ate dinner, drank a couple tanks of water (lol), then crashed on the floor.  He is currently sleeping.  Tomorrow is our check at the vet.  Can't wait.  Yea Gizmo!

Jo...thanks for the photos !  Very interesting, and so sweet the way Giz leaned up to you.  What an ordeal you had, and I'm sure Giz appreciates all you've done for her...and the love she will now get at home.  THAT's the best medicine...

Grace you crack me up!!!  Of course Pemon made the sign of the cross!  Thanks for the prayers in any position.  Gizmo appreciates it very much (and so do his people).

Oh Jo, we are so happy to hear that Gizzy is home.  He knows what he needs right now and it is love and caring, which he is getting a lot of.  Pemon came in the bedroom last night and I told him how Gizmo was and he was real happy.  He was half on the bed with his legs on the floor and I felt that was a perfect prayer postion, so we prayed together for a speedy recovery.  Shocked me when Pemon made the sign of the cross.  I'M ONLY KIDDING.  But nothing would surprise me with our wonderful Doodles.  Just keep him calm, which I'm sure the pain medicine is helping in that way.  We grill a London Broil for Pemon when he is on meds.  But it sounds like your Popsicles are doing the trick and lost more cost effective.  LOL.  Well keep us informed.  I'll be watching for those pictures.  Big Hugs from The Crouse House and especially Pemon.

Very happy and relieved and still tearing up while I read your updates Jo, but keep them coming as you can, we're all thinking of Gizzy and so proud of how brave he has been (beein wimpy to get some sympathy is fine by me - I'd fall for it too :) He deserves to be spoiled and tendered to and any popsicles he wants because he's been so brave!

Lots of love and loving paws and human hugs for him and for you and Terry. Wishing a speedy recovery.
