My doodle Daisy got her first haircut yesterday. It had gotten so long I couldn't keep up with the matting anymore. The groomer had to shave her real close, and I am heartbroken. I loved her shaggy look!  He told me the reason she was matting so badly is that she was growing her adult coat over her baby hair. Has anyone ever heard of this, or was he giving me a line of bull?? He did leave her beautiful face longer and her tail, but her body just looks so naked and skinny.

Well Fozzie is 14 mos now, and well into his period of puppy coat matting. In the aftermath of groomers telling me he should be shaved, and me refusing, I have cut his coat down in length with my grooming scissors. It makes it much easier to brush him. To get his mats out I also have a bladed rake that looks like a bear claw. The two tools work amazingly well. As soon as his coat gets wet in the rain he gets wavy and a little curly. If he is blow dried his hair is just straight and fluffy.'

I used one of those rakes on my F1B before I come him and it is unbelievable how much hair I get. His puppy coat has not matted and I love it. It gets the hair from underneath and he does not mind it.

Oh, and now he is 52lbs, a gain of 4 lbs. in 3wks. instead of the 9lbs, he was gaining. But when do they stop growing?

Golden Doodle, but Turbo is definitely Golden Doodle, right? I thought Golden doodles had a softer coat.

I asked the kennel recently about Fozzie's parents, and his poodle dad was under 60 lbs, I was surprised. His mom was closer to 70lbs., so we will see how big he gets. I got nervous that he would be over 70lbs, the way he is growing. I freaked when I saw an 85 Lb Labradoodle shopping in Petco. I was expecting a retriever sized dog like my Kelly I had 20 years ago.

Fozzie's birthday is January 5th, so he just turned 6 months. We do his weigh ins every 3 weeks at the vet since he finished his shots. That was his shot schedule, and we just continued it. We weigh him next week. 3 weeks ago he was 48lbs., so he has slowed his weight gain down a bit. He was gaining 3lbs a week. I know he has passed 50 lbs., but I may have said he may have gained extra. It's either that or he got more of the retriever genes. It can't hurt having a little extra since he is growing so fast.

Persians are long haired cats and are beautiful when their coats are washed and groomed. I only shave the male cats into a Lion cut at the beginning of the summer. It grows out quite a bit by fall. I would never shave them all year! I wash them in the kitchen sink every couple of months- there is practically no dander, and they don't go outside. I had six of them, which is why we took so long to get a dog. We are down to four, so I thought we could train a puppy. I have one adopted male that has to be 20 yrs. old, and he keeps on going. They still do not like Fozzy ( he wants to make friend a little too agressively), so they have the upstairs, and Fozzy the downstairs.

Fozzie gets little mats that I find when I am brushing him. The groomer said she would have to shave them out if she came across any. At six months his hair is getting long, and harder to brush out. If I come across a Matt, I can pull it apart with my fingers, or carefully snip it out with a scissors. His long hair puffs out like a cloud around him. I think if he were wet to the skin I would see a pretty substantial retriever frame, not so skinny,.... But I might be feeding him too much and he's a little on the fat side? I have been grooming my Persian cats for a more than 30 years, so some things are the same, only a lot bigger!

I think they can cut it longer. I was reminded that a Bischon is a long cut. Some of Fozzie's hair is 3" or longer. I could see 1 1/2" or 2", so he is still furry. He has curvy hair, not tight curls right now. He is F1, so I am hoping for a more retriever like coat.

When I was still in school working, I would give Fozzie a quick brushing a couple times during the week, and a good brushing on the weekend. He is almost 6 months and I can see a difference in how many mats he gets. I use a pin brush everywhere, and follow up with a slicker brush. What I want to know is how do you keep his beard and chin clean? Yesturday I told a wet paper towel to his nose!
