An attempt to socialize Buddy becomes a sidewalk - traffic jam.

So yesterday we took 8 month old "Buddy" to the "city" for the first time.  Saugatuck, MI. is an artist-tourist-lakeshore, seasonal kind of place. We avoid it in the Summer because there seem to be too many Chicago-Detroit tourists who don't know how to drive, park, or be considerate of others.  A lot of T-shirts and fudge are sold each day and many of these people walk dogs that are not very well trained - like their masters.

Immediately after getting Buddy out of the car, complete strangers approached ( quickly ) and start asking questions on top of each other. " What kind of dog is he? What is his name? How old is he? Was he a rescue? Does he really not shed?   Is he hyper? Blah-blah-blah......

So, we answered the questions as best we could. We tried to explain that, no, he was not a "Norwich Terrier", his mother was a Golden Retreiver and his father was a miniature poodle..... yes, it was articifial insemination..... because, eh, because "it's easier that way".

We soon found ourselves  surrounded by passer-bys.... with and without dogs and children.  Buddy was somewhat overwhelmed by all of the attention.  He wanted to be petted and given fudge and ice cream. ( we don't allow things like that.... especially never chocolate !

We came home after about an hour and 1/2 and he slept the rest of the afternoon.  We decided we would try it again when fewer tourists are in town.... maybe November.  All in all though, it did expose him to lots of different kind of people, children, other dogs.... lots of silly T-shirts and drips of melting ice cream and fudge.

I love it and let's just face it, all our "furkids" are so beautiful and gorgeous that this is the price of fame and cuteness! Buddy, you are adorable and it seems to me that you handled the attention very well! Loving paws from Pedro.

Too funny!  It seems that whenever we take Gizmo somewhere HE is the one who is trying to get to strangers.  He thinks the world is there just to pet him and dote on him.  Your photo of Buddy is very similar to how Gizmo looks now - only larger.  Love it!

My Ginger is a real Chic-Magnet !  As noted, we live on a golf course, and every once in a while, we have tournaments for young kids...college and highschool.  Families follow them around, of course.  Sometimes Ginger and I sit out back and watch...and sure enough, just about EVERY parent stops to say HI to Ginger.

As good looking as Buddy is, its no wonder he is a magnet !  What a GREAT looking dog.

Most all of us have this problem. It takes me two hours to get through a farmers market that has less than 25 vendors. It is too bad when I would like to get in and out I don't take him. Then the vendors ask well where is Charlie.

giggles and grins...  I took my grandkids to 'the pumpkin farm' on  Saturday.  I took only Charlie with us to avoid just such an issue..  He was very good laying under a picnic table while he and I waited for the boys to wind through a maze.  Of several hrd people only a few people notice him. (mostly kids stand 2' tall as he only stands at 14" at shoulder.    We were not asked to leave until we were on our way out..  LOL    Izzi on the other hand bounces on her paws,  waves her flying tail, with RED flag hanging from teeth.  She would never had made it past the 1st gate.   You and Buddy were part of the attraction don't you know.     More giggles and grins..  L
