There are facilities now that have webcams that you can view from your computer to check on your pet.  If I had to put my dog in a place I think I would need this.. I'm such a worry wart :(  We have always had a friend or family member care for our pets.. as much as I still worry.. I know they are safe.

We have friends that travel alot and leave their terrier at a boarding facility that has a trainer on staff.  So, every time the dog stays there, she gets training....a good deal.  Since this is your first dog, and training can be tough, suggest you consider getting some if the facility offers it....

Have a good vacation....

Hi,

Thanks for feedback..I agree that itwas behavorial and I am clearly seeing that this dog/puppy needs a lot of attentiona and affirmations and does seem happier with eating and her mood when we are around.  She seems all back to normal.  It gave me an opportunity to research all the things it might be....goodness I better keep a close eye on her....also my husband did introduce some wet food to her mixed with dry and then did not give it to her so I think she got mad a little:)

Thinking like a cat thats me also....this is my first dog....she is very unique in so many ways....

we are going on a 5 night vacation next week and leaving her at a pet boarding facility comes highly recommended....hope she will be OK...

Off the eating schedule is generally behavorial issues...sit down and think..."what has changed just before she stopped eating.?"  Like a family member being gone...favorite person....or maybe a schedule change...walk time changed, potty breaks changed.

I know I'm thinking more like a cat, but dogs do it too.  When we took a long weekend vacation and left Ginger with "gram'ma", Ginger didn't pee for the first day.  She ate nothing from her bowl, but ate only the treats Gram'ma gave her.

Hang in there...and, as Grace said...if it gets to be a long term thing, get to the vet.  It could be something serious, like a blockage in the stomach or something.....

Faye:  How is April doing?  If she isn't better I would see the Vet.

Comment by Daryl & Janet's Dyna Doodle on May 15, 2012 at 8:12pm

Faye - Dyna does that from time to time. When she was about 9 or 10 months old she started cutting herself down from 4 cups a day to 3 and then eating once a day now she has cut herself to 2 cups once a day and it has not affected her weight. Sometimes she will not eat but I think it is when she has been munching on stick or limbs or grass and it throws her a little off her food. But she recovers and goes back to her own schedule. The first time my husband left her see went 24 hours without food or water. Some dogs are just more food driven than others.

Faye, we know what you meant.  LOL.  Maybe April is not eating because of the ear infection and the eye infection.  Is Victor keeping her away from the food?  Don't know what to tell you because we never had a problem with Pemon not eating.  Have you tried mixing something with her food?  Left over meat from dinner?    Let us know how you make out.  Is April on Antibiotics?  That could be doing something to her appetite.

I meant to say not eating
