A Community of Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Lovers
I've heard a lot of varying things...so I thought I would turn to the people I trust and seek your insight!
A few weeks ago we were at a BBQ at a friends house with Mowgli, a yellow lab (but fully grown PUPPY) and a miniature pinscher. The dogs were in love with each other, and it was fun to watch them play...and hilarious since they are all such varying heights, sizes, etc. (believe it or not, Mowgli and the lab were the most scared of the maybe 10 pound min pin - who had a mean…Continue
It's really amazing to watch a puppy learn and grow. They pick up more in the first 5 months of their lives than most PEOPLE pick up in 5 years...or more. And there is no denying the unconditional love they display for their families. I often pet Mowgli and tell my husband "I hope he's happy with us, I hope he likes it here." Who am I kidding? I know how happy he is when I come home and can hear the thump of his wagging tail against his kennel which is quickly exaggerated with kisses. …Continue
I haven't been the best at updates lately, we've been very busy! But, everyday Mowgli continues to steal every tiny piece of our heart we have left. He is everything that was promised of a golden doodle...and so much more.
One major difference we have noticed is his mellow attitude. He still mouths...he continues to lose teeth quite frequently, but, we think he is nearing the end of that. We are able to have him in bed with us as we unwind without him chewing on the…Continue
I haven't had much chance to update all my doodle friends about Mowgli, we've been very busy!
Mowgli is growing into a very mellow, very loving Mama's boy! The weather has been un seasonably warm here, so, each night I have been trying to get Mowgli outside for a walk. I'm trying to teach him to walk beside me and not all over the sidewalk! I don't think it will take long for him to catch on. He is still coughing and strangling himself all the way, but, slowly he's…Continue
Getting our Mowgli was honestly one of the best decisions we've ever made. At this point, I honestly couldn't imagine our life without him! He continues to grow and change (even mellow out a bit!), but, he also continues to keep us on our toes!
We had a hard week at our house last week. Work was overwhelming for both my husband and I, and, at the end of the week my 9 month old nephew landed in the hospital because of a seizure. This was AFTER Mowgli gave me the scare of my life. …Continue
Although we still have a long way to go, it feels so good to be making progress with training and routines. My panic over Mowgli's eating habits is a thing of the past. Everyone morning when I get up for work, Mowgli gets up too. He goes outside while I'm brushing my teeth at the patio door (I've learned that if I leave him out too much longer, we recieve a new hole in the backyard and Mowgli will need a spray down!). Since my husband works nights and is usually asleep for a good portion…Continue
Just as we thought (and hoped) he would, Mowgli is falling into his own little routine. It seems so simple, but it sure does make life so much easier. He knows he gets to get up every morning while I get ready for work, and he loves this - but he also knows there is business at hand. He needs to potty, he needs to eat, and he gets to play and snuggle with Mama a little. Casey works nights, so, many times he has a few more hours of sleep before he is up. Mowgli knows that when I leave,…Continue
...Another week, another pound, a few tricks, and many many smiles! I can already see many of the frusterations we had with Mowgli in the first couple weeks disappear. He's still very much a puppy, but, he is certainly learning right and wrong - and we are learning more about him, too. We finally have pretty good communication with outside and the fact that this is where his pottying needs to take place. We've also learned that if we turn our heads to him, he's going to require a spray…Continue
Before I create any bad habits I thought I would ask for more advice! Mowgli has been a tough eater since we got him. At first we thought it was because he was afraid of his bowl so we tried different things - giving him small handfuls to coax him into his bowl, dropping a treat in every once in awhile...etc. He DOES eat from his bowl when he wants to, but I think the biggest problem is getting him to focus. Our vet strongly recommends feeding him at specific times during the day so that…Continue
We're into our second week with Mowgli home and we're learning a lot about him- and us! After having one "bad night" where Mowgli was having numerous accidents in the house and being more aggressive and biting more than we'd like with nothing that seemed to work - Casey and I had to regroup a little. We realized that some of his accidents were actually, probably our fault. We were so thrilled at Mowgli's good potty habit when we first got him home that I think we started to give him more…Continue
It's amazing how much joy an animal can bring into your life. Mowgli has only been with us for about a week, and we already wonder how we ever went without him! Although he is still very shy sometimes (every once in awhile he gives us a "wait a minute, do I know you!?" looks) he seems to be learning quickly that this is home, and that we love him! There is nothing more fun that coming home from work to walk up to his crate and watch that little tail wag until we open the door and let him…Continue
