Favorite Sleep Spot

So this is one of Gracie's preferred sleep spots. It's always the same -- front half in; back half out. She has to sort of skootch to get into this position, so it's not happening by chance. There's no rhyme or reason for the times that she chooses this spot. Nothing scary happening; it's random. I'm curious to know if this is yet another doodle characteristic. Like sleeping splayed out, belly up! :) Any other doods with this half-hiding sleep habit??…

Happy Spring and Nexgard!

First a big hello to those I "know" and those who remember me/us, and hello to those who have joined since I last visited. Gracie is doing well and I am hoping the same for all of you.

With the return (finally!) of warmer weather, so too will come the fleas and the ticks and my annual quest for a product that will work and not make me too terribly alarmed about the idea of putting poison onto or into my pooch. My recent trip to the vet ended with a purchase of Nexgard, which is…

Grooming . . . again

I asked for input on this awhile back and I am now revisiting the whole idea. I am looking for "the perfect doodle brush," if there is such a thing. I do my own grooming and I seem to be lousy at keeping mats from developing when I let Gracie's hair get long. I know the technique (line brushing), and I'm pretty sure I am getting all the way to the base of her hair. Everything will be good for awhile, but it seems like almost overnight, BAM, mat-city! So then it's back to a short hair cut and…

Les Poochs Brush??

I'm on a roll . . . With the winter months, I'm letting Gracie's coat get a little longer, which means lots of grooming or lots of matts. Anybody have any experience with Les Poochs' brushes?

Lesser of all evils for flea; tick; heartworm prevention??

Hi Everyone and Happy Holidays!! I've been away from this group for quite some time now, but it's reassuring to see the same familiar names. I hope all are well! I am here today for your caring expertise . . . Gracie needs a regime for prevention of fleas and ticks (both prevalent in our area) and heartworm. I have been round and round on this . . . was using Interceptor (now no longer available) and Frontline (proved to be not 100% reliable). Switched to Heartguard and Frontline and we are…

Run Away

I'm looking for training suggestions. Gracie took off on us today. We were out on the lake and we had beached the boat, and she was swimming with me (on lead) and then we got back on the boat and were getting ready to push off again. She is usually very good about staying on the boat, but in a heartbeat, she jumped onto shore. I tried to stay cool and went after her with a happy come and play tone. I even tried a stick, but she very quickly found the path to the road and off she went, with…

Hello Again!

Hey all out there in doodleland! I've been silent a long time. Thanks for asking after us, Grace and Mitzie. Got caught up with state assessments at school and then it was one thing after another until the school year ended. Now it's summer break - woo hoo!! So I left off with Gracie's KC, or whatever it was, which went on and on and on. She got a little better and then relapsed big time and then finally got better for good :)  After the relapse I made a tent with a sheet, just like when I…

Kennel Cough

Well, it seems Gracie is destined to get all the terrible things she is vaccinated against getting. Vaccinated against Lyme Disease . . . Got it! Vaccinated against Bordetella . . . Got it! Had Gracie to the vet on Monday and while she is not positive that it not a throat irritation of some sort (injury from something swallowed, etc.), she is pretty sure it is kennel cough. Can't figure out where she got it from. We do go to obedience class, but none of the dogs there are exhibiting any…

Hyacinth and Aussiedoodle Nose

This is the nose shot that Grace suggested I pass on to Bruce. Don't know if this is the right way to do that, but here it is!

Frontline Plus - Take 2

Hi Everyone,

So here is my next chapter of this ongoing, and not so thrilling saga . . . Today I applied Frontline Plus to Gracie and Revolution to our cat, Sophie. This follows two previous applications of Vectra 3-D for Gracie. We have been dealing with this flea infestation for about 2 months now. We are currently finding no fleas or sign of fleas on the cat, and just an occasional flea on Gracie. I stopped using the Vectra because Gracie scratched and bit herself furiously…

Mouthing and Pawing

Before my question . . . a little background so anyone with some thoughts can know what we are already doing. Gracie is 17 mos. and we have been in formal obedience class pretty much non-stop beginning at 3 1/2 months. She is impressive during training sessions; she learns new commands rapidly, and works very well off-lead, however . . . she remains a highly energetic pup and has a reputation for being a ball of energy and a bit of a clown. I have no doubts that she will mature and settle…

Monica and Murphy

After noticing that both the "counter surfing" blog and Monica are gone, I sent a message to Lois I mistakenly thought that Lois was the moderator, but as it turns out, she was the right person to contact anyway. Lois said she didn't mind if I pasted her response into an open blog, so I have done so. I have to admit, I was feeling alarmed by what I was reading on that blog. Any who were following it know that. Posted words will never have the quality of a conversation, and the lack of tone…

Vectra and Scratching

Hi All - I posted about our flea problem a few weeks back, but now I have a question along a different line. Has anyone used Vectra and found it to NOT work or had their pup scratch MORE after application? We are one week into our second application and I am noticing a pattern . . . About two weeks into the first application I called our vet because Gracie was still scratching crazily (which causes matting-ahhhh) and I was still picking live, seemingly healthy fleas off of her. I know it…

Vectra and Capstar

Hello All - I just got off the phone with a vet tech and I'd like to now put this out to the community . . . The flea situation is pretty bad here in NE PA and for the first time in many, many years, I personally am dealing with an outbreak. As I mentioned in a previous post, we were using Frontline, but discovered that it had lost its effectiveness. We have now switched to Vectra, which is highly recommended by our vet and I've found a good deal of positive feedback online. However . . .…

Eating Habits

So I hope I don't wear out my welcome, but I have another question. How are your doodles' appetites? Our last dog-child (lab mix) ate 1 cup of dry food 2x a day, and she was just a little smaller than Gracie. We are feeding Gracie about the same, but find she has a verrry light appetite. She often leaves part or all of her breakfast, or she will eat her breakfast and then not be so enthusiastic about dinner. Her weight is good. I meant to mention this to the vet at our last visit, but got…

Grooming Tips

First, thank you all for being so welcoming. I've had a lot of fun ignoring a lot of chores as I've checked out the community and your fabulous doodles (but what else could a doodle be?). What led me to your community to begin with yesterday, was a search I had started in an effort to find doodle grooming tips. I've found a few grooming sites in the past and have learned a bit along the way (sometimes at Gracie's expense), but my focus at the moment is the doodle head. The last time I…

Not a golden

Hi - This looks like a great group, but I'm not sure I belong here. I have an aussiedoodle. Are we welcome? :)
