Well the DNA results are in and Quinn is a Doodle!! He is first generation Irish Wolfhound/Standard Poodle. I had thought poodle from the beginning, but wasn't really expecting it to be pure on both sides. We're not sure how Gracie feels about there officially being another doodle in the house. She said she needs to sleep on it.
Stitches are out and his eyes look great. We're not done yet though, because now he has a bacterial infection in his ears. So we have a couple of weeks of…Continue
DNA results on Quinn have been returned to the vet! She will give them to us when we go in for removal of stitches on Tuesday. Partly excited and partly wishing I never did the test. Thinking it may say Gracie has a Pomeranian/Pug as a brother or some such thing!
P.S. For those of you who saw it, I deleted the Halloween Photo contest post. I checked out the top 200 out of over 800 entries so far and there was no Gracie :p - Also, they want an email address for voting and I don't…Continue
I like bad news first . . . so, The Ugly: Quinn's cone neatly removed the small wooden ladder of "special memory" knick knacks from the wall. I now have an earless and footless rabbit, a buttless West Highland Terrier, and a headless flamingo--whose head has yet to be found :( The Bad: Since Quinn's peripheral vision is limited to begin with, he now misjudges the distance between his cone and just about everything, which causes frequent disruption in his…Continue
Quinn is getting his entropion surgery tomorrow. Today was a particularly bad eye day. Lots of rubbing and pawing; rinse and eye gel didn't seem to help much, so it's good we are getting it taken care of, but I am nervous. . . . sigh.
Hello there doodle friends! I've been absent for a couple of weeks, but wanted to share the latest on our Mighty Quinn. Had our ophthalmologist appointment just this past Monday and yes, Quinn has entropion of both lower lids. We got an estimate of $3,300. which I definitely was not expecting. Made some phone calls and we are now looking at $900 - $1,200 which is much closer to what I was expecting. The first facility/surgeon was fantastic, but they are very close to NYC, which probably…Continue
First day back to school. My husband is working the late shift, and so we had to leave Quinn and Gracie for only 2.5 hours, which is still more than double any of my practice runs. Was a little nervous about what I might find, but he was GREAT! He was sooooo excited to see me return. I couldn't calm him down and had to get him out of the house before he knocked something over! I have to give Gracie a huge amount of credit throughout this process. I know she has been confused and even a…Continue
I went to clean Quinn's eyes this morning, and got it into my head that his lower lids were rolled in. Called the vet, they had an opening within the hour, zipped over there...and I was wrong. Worth the visit though as the vet was able to do a pupil check and both pupils are reactive. I'm hoping that's good news in regard to the ONH and the amount of vision he will have in the future. Also got a prescription medicated shampoo and a suggestion to give him Benadryl for his eyes. It's very…Continue
Quinn had his eye exam with Dr. Aguirre today. The environment was a bit chaotic and I didn't get to ask many questions, but the bottom…Continue
Whether he's always been this way or it's the product of always being hungry, without a doubt, Quinn is always on the prowl for food. His chin rests at the height of the counter and right from the start, he was walking/sniffing the length of the counter. We immediately modified our food storage. No more baskets of bread and goodies on the counter. Now on day two, he has figured out how to open the kibble container, and just a bit ago, he stood behind me as I cleaned out the frig for garbage…Continue
Quinn had a great night, and as you can see, he is feeling at home already. Put his bed on the floor right alongside me and there he slept all night long. Gracie is a bit wary of him right now. He play-pounced on her a couple of times and then this morning, he whacked her in the head with his tail--she yipped :( She still approaches him with tail wagging, but she is giving him a pretty side berth when he is moving around. I don't blame her and I know it will all work out. There is a learning…Continue
So...a very dear friend of mine manages a local humane society/shelter, and today I went by to drop off a dehumidifier that we donated. Well...I met "Woofie" a very young (likely about a year or so) Irish Wolfhound--mix maybe. He's not HUGE, but he's very, very big. He was found just two days ago along the river and he's in rough shape. Pretty skinny, infected eyes, ragged coat, skin irritations, a hematoma on his elbow... Here's the thing though, I played with him for a short while, and he…Continue
Hey there doodle pals--hope you are all enjoying the summer days--we sure are! Once again, I have a question for the community. Gracie has begun to scratch fairly frequently. No changes in diet (grain free) or environment or exposure to water (bathing, swimming, etc.), no fleas, no hot spots, no redness or dry patches. She is not biting her feet or anywhere else, which would make me suspect an allergic reaction, mostly she is using her back feet to scratch up along her ribcage. So . . . I am…Continue
Hello my doodle friends. Today I am here looking for advice. Gracie fractured her mandibular first molar (the big one on the bottom). The pulp is exposed, so we have to either extract or do a root canal. I of course went to Google right away and from everything I have read, root canal is suggested most often due to the fact that this tooth is the major crushing tooth and it has 3 roots!! I feel like this is what we should do, BUT our vet does not do root canals; she does not know a vet who…Continue
I just have to share my love of this new brush by ConairPro. I ordered this "Soft Slicker Brush" in the medium size, mostly to bump up the total purchase of a recent Drs. Foster and Smith order so that I could get free shipping, and it turned out to be the best item in the order! I do my own grooming and I have to say, it is not my favorite job. If I would find the time to groom every day, the task would be easier, but the reality is that no matter how much I vow to be more diligent, I can't…Continue
