As Opie has neared and passed his 1year old birthday mark his coat has started to shed its puppy fluff and I have had tumbleweeds of red hair blowing around my house. In fact its SO bad that it has broken my vaccum 2x! I was brushing him EVERYDAY but apperently I wasnt brushing well enough because he developed 3 mats around his neck where his collar rubs, 1 behind his right ear and 1 on his back hip. I felt like an awful doodle mommy and I took him into the groomers friday. After talking…Continue
Today Opie turned 1! I cant believe how fast this year has gone... this time last year we were getting ready to place a deposit on first choice male. Now a year later and we are sitting in the livingroom cuddling our big boy! He has grown and changed and calmed (just a tad bit) and he is the best addition we could of brought into our family!
We have had great adventures in just a short year; snow, rain, beach, camping, road trips, Nevada, sleep over at grandmas, festivals, splash…Continue

Its been awhile since I was on here - and I wanted to post and update. Summer was sooo busy and it flew bye! Opie is now 10months old and awesome as ever. He enjoyed the summer with camping, beach and lake trips... and he even went to Nevada with us! He made so many friends there on his daily walk around the park. They cant wait for us to bring him back. He is ever in love with Frenchy - in fact we just had a playdate last night where they played and jumped and raced and wrestled and then…Continue
Well today is Opies very first grooming appointment! I am SO nervous that he isnt going to behave... he gets SO excited and SO happy that its takes Marcus or me to calm him down and get him behaving. He was so happy to go this morning and didnt even look back at me when she took him to the back! Well gesh Opie, mommy will miss YOU atleast! Haha. Its like the first day at kindergarten and you drop off your baby that has only been with you for 5years and they dont even look back and your…Continue
Just dropped Opie off at the vets - he is 6.5 months old and its time for the big snip! I am SUCH a nervous doodle mommy. They will be calling me between 2 - 3 today and then they even said they will send text messages with pictures of my good boy so that I can see he is doing all right! I love technology! Lol.
So I love our vet - she is awesome! He is getting the works for his surgery - full exam and blood work, IV fluids and ECG during the surgery. They will even keep him overnight…Continue
So I am not sure what I did wrong - but here I will try again!
I took Opie to the dog park for the first time this past thursday - he did GREAT! I was nervous about taking him for one reason - he is an AWESOME dog and not aggressive what so ever - but I have heard horrible stories about dogs being attacked during the busy hours at the dog park. I call it 'happy hour' because its when everyone gets off work and brings thier dogs and instead of paying attention to the animals and…Continue
Hello all!! How has everyone and thier doodles been? I know I have been away lately. Summer has arrived and as usual its busy busy busy!
I have been so busy that I felt like I was neglecting my online family! I just wanted to drop in and say how in love I am! Opie is 5months old basically (depends if your counting by weeks or months) and he is an absolutely amazing companion. He loves the ENTIRE family but it is by my side that he sticks. When I am cooking he is laying right at my feet (sometimes we have to do a the kitchen tango to save myself from falling on my face when he doesnt get out of the way fast enough) when I…Continue
So Sorry I havent updated you all on Opies growth and never ending love. All is well here! So glad he is fully housebroken now - its nice to sit on the couch in the evening and relax without having to jump up constantly to see if he is sniffing too much. Lol. He is also LOVING his walks. He does GREAT. He learned heel very quickly and now does a beautiful job. But com'on he is still barely 4mo. old and is easily distracted. When he wanders ahead or starts to pull I stop and ask him to…Continue
Opie is 3.5months already! He is growing quite fast and even showing signs of maturing! (A few) Lol. So much to tell you all about - I guess I will start with the snow!
As you can see from the posted pics - Opie had his first expirence with snow. AND LOVED IT. It was such a pleasure to watch him romp around and dig and lick and kick it up. So precious. It was also raining on us at the sametime - it was a great day!! We were freezing and soaking by the end of the adventure but…Continue
Opie is on Large Breed Puppy food - my question is how long should he remain on puppy food? Our yorkie/chihuahua (5yrs old now) is only about 5lbs but when she was a puppy the vet recommended that we keep her on puppy food until she was 2 because she was so small and it was good for her growing self. It must of been true because she has never had any health problems and is incrediably healthy to date. Our vet recommeneded that we give Opie puppy food until about 6mo. and then switch to…Continue
I havent posted any pics, or recanted any funny stories or blogged about our ever growing affection with Opie in a while. Life has been so crazy. My inlaws lost thier home due to economic stresses and now in thier late 50s have to find a way to recreate themselves. We have been frantically helping them get everything out and cleaned and moved into my parents (thankfully we all get along beautifully). Even tho my husband has 2 other brothers, they do NOTHING for his parents so it always…Continue
Everyday in the mid afternoon, after Opie has completly run hiself ragged and tortured everyone in the house there is this moment that I get a glimpse of his true 'dog' self. The Opie that he is destined to become once we get thru his puppyhood. He is kind and affectionate - and he DOESNT consistantly mouth or catch little nibbles of my rear end when I try to stand up. He listens AMAZINGLY well and even 'reads my mind' in a way and predicts what I am going to ask of him next and he does…Continue
It has been full 3 weeks since we brought Opie home. He has grown SO much!! I wish I had measured his height on day one but I didnt. I do know he has gained significant weight going from 11lbs to nearly 17. He enjoys his training, playing and cuddle time. He is always ready to explore or find a new game. He is constantly learning new things and its just a joy to watch him. Yesterday I was in the back yard and we were working on recall and half way thru a plane flew low over the house…Continue

So Opies 'sister' Frenchy (7mo. Labradoodle) came to play today. It didnt go too well. Lol. Frenchy is considerablly bigger then he - as you can see from posted pics. Opie wanted to play, as did Frenchy but she is still very much a puppy but her size isnt. She got very excited and would jump and nip (as did Opie, but when Opie did it she didnt even notice) Opie was a happy boy until he got trampled and then he hid underneath our legs. When Frenchy would run up to him and bark or jump…Continue
OMGosh! My beautiful, handsome, funny boy rolled in what I can only think is cat poop! My hubby took him out in the backyard this a.m. so I wasnt there to oversee his playing. Well later in the morning as I was playing with him I noticed this awful smell! I looked him over and his back was crusted and matted with something. I was mortified to discover the smell was coming from him. Bath time - yet again. So I shampooed him and rinsed him down reeaallly well but it still sort of…Continue
Does anyone with adult doodles remember what thier doggies weight was around 10 weeks? I was so shocked to see Opie is now 14.2 lbs! I knew he looked like he grew overnight but now I see he really has. I was just wondering if anyone else out there kept track of thier doodles growth and if those doodes that were around 14lbs at this age.... what did they top out at as adults? Just curious : )
Opie is growing up so quickly!! I can't wait to do his measurements friday because I can see he is grown quite a bit since the day we picked him up. I can't believe it will be 2 weeks this friday! So lately he has really gotten into using his voice. He barks at me when he gets excited. Its so cute he will be looking at me and I say 'What?' and he barks like he is answering my question. Today we were going for a ride in the car and he was sitting on my lap with his nose out the window…Continue
I think I'd kill him. Seriously there is a reason why babies (both human and animal) are so darn adorable. They have this baby breath that has been proven to cause adult brains to release some hormone - I forget at the moment what it is - but its so we love and nuture them instead of leaving him out in the cold. Lol. Mommyhood is TOUGH - whether your raising human babies or animal babies. Opie is driving me bonkers. He is just out of control when it comes to the puppy nipping. I know…Continue
